If you’re the instructor and the recital is his (not yours), how is his absence from practice a problem for you (other than the inconvenience and the rudeness to you)? I just think I’m missing something.

Ah, but you misinterpret. the recital is always the instructor's especially when it is a school-wide recital. You are constantly being judged by the other instructors in how well you have prepared the students for performance, and he's supposedly my most advanced student participating this time through, so his poor performance reflects poorly on me. This is exactly why I despise teamwork, and group projects, and anything where you are graded based on any performance other than your own. You can lead a horse to the water, but you can't make it drink. However, if it is your horse, and it dies of dehydration as a result, all the unknowing onlooker sees is that your horse died. |
