Hello Everybody,
First up I have to let Golden Fedora know I haven't done anything to his phone...but you might all need your phones tomorrow when you see what I have in store....but "Who ya gonna call?"
Ok back to my designing and today's offering. I try to learn a new Blender 3D function each week and at this point in my "Training" I decided to push myself and try out a feature called "Modifiers". Modifiers are as they sound, functions to change or alter a model or object in a project. They range from texture modifications to create elevations (Gamers will have heard of Bump Maps to create 3d lumps and bumps) all the way through to Wireframe modifiers (making a model into a skeletal frame).
I chose Wireframe and attempted to incorporate a wireframe object into a Solo A Star Wars Story inspired hilt. This is a pair of hilts named Red Morning and Crimson.
Red Morning:
This hilt was inspired by Qi'Ra and in particular the dress she wore on Dryden Vos' yacht. I used a desert brown colour to accent a basic windowed hilt. The Wire frame is actually the ridges that form the handgrip. I created a sleeve and applied the Modifier to it and that created the cage that I scaled down to wrap around the hilt.
But that isn't all. I thought the saber needed a strong link to the inspiration so I added the pommel cap below...
Pommel Cap:
I modelled the opening of the pommel to represent the necklace Qi'Ra wore and her tattoo, which of course is the Crimson Dawn logo.
You will have noticed the colours have changed also and that is because you can't have Qi'Ra and not mention her boss! So I tweaked a few bits and built Crimson....
Crimson:
I added Dathomirian horns around the emitter, gave the saber the new red and black colour scheme to mimic Maul's iconic look and Ta-Dah! I had a new saber! At this time I also learned how to add a photographic image as a backdrop to the 3D model and below is the "Glamour Shot" image I created to show the design off.
Crimson Title Plate:
Hope you enjoyed this offering and thanks for checking it out. I have more to come.
