No worries. The film world is also super wide and complex so it's alright to not always be on top of things.  Cheesy
Especially when you have seen as many movies as you and I have.
Also, thank you for not correcting me on the three Indy thing!  Cheesy

It is a classic in it's own right. No need to compare it to Spielberg's others. What makes it even more amazing is that in the same year he also released Schindler's List. From Jaws up until Jurassic Park, virtually every one of his movies were amazing (for different reasons). He is one of the greatest living directors and one of the best directors of all time. Always a good sign when you can just use a director's surname and everyone knows who you are talking about (Spielberg, Carpenter, Tarantino, Scorcese, Kubrick, Hitchcock etc)

I have heard of but not seen Shindlers List.

Out of that list, I've seen several Spielberg films, and I've only heard of Tarantino and Scorsese on this forum. Never heard of the others.

John Carpenter - The Thing, Halloween, Escape from New York, They Live
Alfred Hitchcock - Psycho, North by Northwest, Rear Window, Vertigo
Stanley Kubrick - A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining

And Schindler's List - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schindler's_List

Oh my god...

Ohmygodohmygodohmygod...

Have some education:

BEST DIRECTORS EVER (in no particular order):
- (what Knox has mentioned in his last few posts)
- Charlie Chaplin
- Buster Keaton
- Edwin S. Porter
- D.W. Griffith (he's super racist so please keep that in mind when watching his movies)
- Orson Welles
- Sydney Lumet
- Francis Ford Coppola
- Jean Renoir
- Vittorio de Sica
- Frederico Fellini
- Michelangelo Antonioni
- Werner Herzog
- Andrei Tarkovsky
- Ingmar Bergman
- Yasujiro Ozu
- Hayao Miyazaki
- Akira Kurosawa (WATCH THE HELL OUT OF THIS DUDE PLEASE NO JOKE MIGHT ACTUALLY BE THE BEST DIRECTOR EVERY ALTHOUGH EVERYONE ELSE ON THIS LIST GIVES HIM FIERCE COMPETITION BUT HE'S PRETTY DANG GOOD)
- George Miller
- Robert Bresson
- François Truffaut
- Guillermo del Toro
- Alfonso Cuarón

That's all I can think of off of the top of my head and probably good enough for now but if you want specific movies hit me or Knox up any time.

And don't feel overwhelmed either you'll eventually see everything you need to, then you'll be the person everyone is like "OMG HE'S SEEN EVERYTHING I'M SO JEALOUS" to.  Cheesy

Don't be! Now you get a lot of cool things to check out.  Smiley I can't speak for Knox but I still learn about new names/movies every day. Studying movies is about constant discovery and you'll never truly know everything. It's just fun.  Cheesy

^^^^ Yep.

That's why I love DVDs/bluray. Hearing director's influences (films, other directors, scenes etc) and then going out and watching those things for myself is just awesome.

Just saw the list you posted LB. Point for all the top names you have on there. But you don't want to overload the poor lad. Bite size chunks to ease him in gently.

I DO THAT TOO IT'S SO FUN.  Grin

Lol once I got to the last I mentioned I felt it was enough but it's also so hard to parse it down.  Cheesy But even if he just watches Kurosawa (which is why he had that huge parenthetical) then that's cool with me (although I would give Bresson and Bergman huge pushes as well, with Ozu being next if he eases into Bresson).

There is probably genres I haven't seen a single movie from yet. Ah well, like you said, more to discover.

Anywho, I've enjoyed this conversation, but I have to go sleep now.

It's historically relevant, but not for the timid.

As for directors....I've always liked Luc Besson's films.

Nikita, Leon, Taxi, Taxi 2, Kiss of the Dragon, The Transporter and of course THE FIFTH ELEMENT!!!!
My favourite of his is definitely Leon though (theatrical release though, not the director's cut)

For the third time through, I am watching a Scottish sketch comedy on Netflix, called: Burnistoun.

Just can't get enough of it.  Cheesy

THE FIFTH ELEMENT!!!!

Oh, how I wish there was some sort of book that expanded on the universe he created in that film. I just love everything about it, casting, acting, score, costuming, set design, etc.

A part of me wants to believe that, Lucy, from "Lucy" is one of the earlier "Supreme Beings."  Grin
