Seeing as women don't interest me I'd obviously have to choose the role and just pray they didn't have me play something really embarrassing.
To me, TFA's casting does not come off as gimmicky. The actors all seem capable and where I have had an issue with writing (yes, for Rey), I felt the issue was not due to doing a demographic gimmick but due to mistakes that would've sunk a male character too (see Wesley Crusher until the late-season episodes of Star Trek for an example of what I mean).

Exactly. The issues were not due to her being female. I know plenty of male characters(you named a good example) that fall into the same deficiencies. |

In fact one thing that proves it wasn't a gender thing is that the TFA Lego game cutscenes were, crazy enough, actually able to FIX one of the biggest screwups (the duel). Despite all the Lego silliness, I actually thought they did a GREAT job without at all detracting from Rey, by creating a more ambiguous outcome for the duel and NOT forcing Kylo to hold the idiot ball to make her look like a good little Mary Sue. Rey doesn't come off as a Mary Sue so much in the Lego game. If that's all it took to fix the problem, then it is definitely not a casting or gender issue.

Definitely! I think the problem is, people like that are realizing they are an extreme minority. This makes them whine and be more vocal. |

On a slightly different note, but still in line with your post: Some people are very threatened by extremely fit, muscular women. I don't think Daisy is terribly muscular in that fitness model way, but she's definitely lean. I've had men at the gym tell me not too lift to heavy because, well, "you don't want to look like a MAN, do you? That's no very feminine." Well, I'm not very feminine, jackass. Don't make me break you. |

Either choice, no one would believe you anyway. You'd probably get suited to be a stormtrooper, which no one would ever see your mug to confirm, or, a date with Daisy people just wouldn't fathom the thought. But, for the sake of the thread, take the role. Maybe she blasts you, or cuts you with the saber. Hell, better than a date to me! |

I'd take the date, but I'd treat it more like two people going out and having fun together instead of a romantic date. Less pressure that way, and let's face it, it'd be awesome to have her as a friend.

See, this is why if it were an Adam Driver choice, I'd opt for either the role, or a "Work a day for Adam's charity" option where it would be about serving a cause I feel good about ( http://www.aitaf.org/) instead of...well, basically expecting someone who doesn't know me to cater to me.
