Title: Movie Trivia!
Post by: Majobu5 on September 24, 2016, 03:27:29 PM
Pretty basic. If you have a question you think others don't know, post your trivial question.

Small rule: No arguments about a right/wrong answer. Perhaps someone else has seen said question at a different angle the one asking the question hasn't seen. Also, when questioned is answered, an explanation is pretty much necessary, both by the one answering the question and by the one asking the question.

My hope is that a healthy debate, along with some fun and information, can be shared.

I will start it off with a question that is hopefully stimulating and requires some thought.

There have been many actors/ actresses who have been killed by a Predator, Alien, or Terminator. A select few have been killed by 2 of them in separate films, as separate characters. Only 2 have been killed by all 3 in separate films.
Name the 2 actors/actresses.

Good luck!

Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton

Paxton was Killed by the T-800 in the first Terminator. He was one of the Punks at the beginning.  He was then Killed by a Xenomorph in Aliens.  Finally killed by a Yatuja known as the City Hunter in Predator 2.

Henriksen died in the Police Station shootout in the First Terminator, he then was ripped in half by the Xenomorph Queen in Aliens then as the real Weyland he was killed by a young Yatuja in Alien vs Predator.

That bit of trivia has been my go to to stump people for years lol.  Helps I love those 3 franchises.  My predator action figure collection is a prize.  So we follow the basic principle of now I come up with something?

This is mine too! It's a total stumper, but you got it quick. If it debatable, it'll be open to conversation. But if you have one, go ahead!

Well I'll go. Knox can chime in if he feels to.

How many lives does the Hoverboard save in the Back to the Future trilogy?

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!

Is it 3? Marty in #2 then Doc & Clara in #3?

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!

Is it 3? Marty in #2 then Doc & Clara in #3?
Arguably four.  If Marty got hit by Biff's bat, it very well could have killed him.

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!
Post by: Majobu5 on September 27, 2016, 05:38:11 AM
My bad guys.
I thought about it. Yes, Griff missing Marty with the bat is one. The tunnel chase, is 2. The Doc and Clara make 4. BUT, if Clara died, the Jukes and Verne are never born, so my final answer was 6.

Now Knox made mention that the whole space time continuum couldve been at risk, so there it is

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!
Post by: Force Metal on September 27, 2016, 08:58:59 PM
But can both times for Marty be counted as 2? The question was how many lives, not how many times, Marty is one person.

You are right with Jules & Verne, I never considered that outcome.

Well it can be argued it saved his life twice. So could be 5, could be 6, could be 4!

Next Question:
By now, most people know that it was pea soup used for the projectile vomit in The Exorcist. What brand of pea soup did the cast go with for the best effect?

Andersen's Pea Soup

Correct!

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!
Post by: For Tyeth on September 27, 2016, 10:35:34 PM
The vomit projectile scene also led to a very funny vomit scene in Guest House Paradiso, starring Ade Edmondson (who may be in an upcoming SW film) and Rik Mayall. I mention this because Mark Hamill was a big fan of Rik Mayall and appeared in a UK comedy called Man Down in which Mayall starred in before his death.

I think I get to post a question now so, how did Sir Alec Guinness and Anthony Daniels save Harrison Ford's life on TWO separate occasions while playing Indiana Jones?

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!
Post by: For Tyeth on September 28, 2016, 04:58:17 PM
Hi Everyone,

I think I may have worded my question to be too cryptic, so if you want to ignore this one and Majobu5 can come up with a new question that's fine!

(I didn't want my question to be too obvious :-[)

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!

M5 needs to make the ultimate decision here, obviously, but why not tell us then?  I'd be interested in that factoid, at least.  ::)

How did Sir Alec Guinness and Anthony Daniels save Harrison Ford's life on TWO separate occasions while playing Indiana Jones?

I'm guessing their voices were heard in certain parts, but I'm not too certain.

Go ahead For, tell us

Title: Re: Movie Trivia!
Post by: For Tyeth on September 29, 2016, 07:01:29 AM
I thought I may have been too cryptic, sorry!

The answer is Alec Guinness and Anthony Daniels' characters names were hidden in Raiders of the Lost Ark . In the opening sequence Indiana Jones is chased by Belloq and the tribespeople through the jungle. He dives into the water and is rescued by a floatplane, with the registration letters.OB-CPO or Obi and Threepio. It was an in-joke by the production team to include references to Star Wars.

In Temple of Doom, Obi-Wan saved Indy's life again. At the end of the fight in the nightclub Indy and Willie Scott crash through the window with the gong and fall down the side of the building. They were saved by the awnings belonging to Club OBI-WAN! You can catch a glimpse of the name as they get into the car driven by Short Round.

So Indiana Jones was saved by Star Wars characters twice (sort of). Sorry again but if I just asked what the registration was it would have been a quick Google search to get the answer.

I'll let Majobu set the questions from now on!

Sure was. The radio show I listen to in the morning always brings it up, so it's deeply embedded.

The answer is STARBUCKS.
This was long rumored, but since confirmed, there is a Starbucks cup in every scene.

Next question!

This 1988 film was based loosely on the time spent between Billy Crystal and Andre the Giant during filming on The Princess Bride.

Ok.   RoboCop is great for many reasons, least of all is that it is a satire of Action films while arguably being one of the greatest action films of all time.  BUT, it was not wholly unique.  The Script for RoboCop had been floating around Hollywood from studio to studio for Years, being tweaked and rewritten.  So, what character was the first script about?

Sorry to Frankenstein this thread, but my brother and I were discussing this very topic the other day and he told me that RoboCop was originally a knockoff of......JUDGE DREDD. Which, years later, Stallone, Rob sneider, ehhhhh... I think RoboCop won this cult classic battle even though Judge DREDD started it all.

So my answer, JUDGE DREDD

Correct.  Dredd of course appears in the 2000 A.D. Comics and first premiered in 1977.  It didn't take long for a movie to be in the works but it never mad it out of the scripting phase.  For years it was passed around, tweeked, altered until it barely resembled the original.  Thus Robocop was born.

In Terminator 2 there were scenes which needed 2 Sarah Conners on set.  One was the scene where they were patching up the T-800 and the other was when the T-1000 was disguised as Sarah.  Now of course they used a stand in, but there is usually is a tell that its a stand in...in this instance it was flawless.  How was this accomplished?

It was done by her....."Sister! She has a twin sister. Your questions have now betrayed her, too."

Her sister's name is Leslie Hamilton (Gearren) and when people talk about identical twins in this case they were TOTALLY indistinguishable from each other.
And sorry for the poor Darth Vader impression.

Correct!  For the scene when they were patching up the t-800 the back of Sarah was her sister while the "reflection" was Linda facing the camera through a mirror frame.  They matched each others movements to make it seem like a reflection.

There is an alternate scene in the Director's Cut, where the T-800 furthers the explanation of how his CPU works; that there is a switch that is defaulted to follow orders only, and that if it is manually toggled, he will then be able to learn and adapt. So there's this whole thing where they cut open his head to get the CPU, and Sarah tries to smash it with a hammer.
