Title: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Wolfknight on October 03, 2012, 12:01:19 AM Okay so I used to do some medieval reenacting, so I have some medieval garb laying around. So I combined a studded gambeson I have with a white shirt, Jedi belt, black pants and boots and this is the result. Does it make a good Jedi outfit?

Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Master Nero Attoru on October 03, 2012, 12:11:41 AM Hmmmmm interesting... it's very unique (which I like), and I think it's really cool that you can sorta re-use gear from one hobby to another. It's definitely a good start, although I personally think a robe would add that final "Jedi" touch.
Still, cool outfit! Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Sky Dragon c5 on October 03, 2012, 12:14:30 AM Looking good!
Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Solinus on October 03, 2012, 12:41:49 AM Add a robe for the Jedi look. Or if you want to be sophisticated, add a jacket to make yourself look like a Count, and add a cloak instead of a robe. You could totally pull of a Makashi look!

A cape would be even better! It's definitely a good start, although I personally think a robe would add that final "Jedi" touch. Still, cool outfit! Thanks man. :) I dont have any robes though. Maybe I can get my sister to make me some sometime. LOL I do have a cloak that I can wear outside. It will have to be cold out though, as its a real cloak and can get rather warm indoors. Thanks for the kind words Skydragon! Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Manroon on October 03, 2012, 01:05:20 AM I'd say use that cloak, and perhaps if you can eventually do so, swap out the shirt for a more traditional style jedi tunic. Or at least something with the Jedi style sleeves. It would make a better blend between the european and more oriental jedi style, more balanced while maintaining the very unique look you have there.
Either way, I like it! It looks awesome. :) Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Oramac on October 03, 2012, 02:51:03 PM I'm still very new to all this, so that what I say with a grain of salt.
It looks really good, but the baggy sleeves kill it for me. If you had something tighter under the armor I think it'd work better. Under Armor maybe (and it would be truly under armor, lol), or a body cut long sleeve shirt or something. EDIT: I'd go with an over-the-shoulder cape too I think. Or maybe just over one shoulder. Give it a semi-hidden mysterious kinda look. Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Master Rel on October 03, 2012, 03:59:49 PM I will go out on the limb of the good news tree on this one.
I like the initial look and then it sinks in that it is of course a recycled renaissance faire appropriate outfit. Now that bit of putting a sad on the table aside, there is real potential in the look IMO. A nice thought as noted above is a bit of cloth over the shoulder and perhaps draped across the chest/back. This would add some cool texture as well as camouflaging the studded leather look. One example would be a lacerna with a fibula (http://www.vroma.org/images/mcmanus_images/lacerna2.jpg) You could also consider a paenula, laena, sagum, or chlamys...which are often used interchangeably (http://visual.merriam-webster.com/images/clothing-articles/clothing/elements-ancient-costume_2.jpg) (http://classconnection.s3.amazonaws.com/914/flashcards/535914/png/chlamys1328495220082.png) Welcome to the forums! My first thought for your face...I know that sounds weird to say...but from a costumer, sometimes I just see a look for a person when I see them...for you, at least in the pics provided, a long padawan style braid or a bit of related hanging adornment seems to fit...but it could just be my eye...maybe a subtle colored facial tattoo (make-up), like (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lposupEDiR1qer56yo1_400.jpg) (http://cdn.eurweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/hangover-tattoo.jpg) (http://static.gigwise.com/artists/Image/200BrentHinds-Tattoo.jpg) Or the like. Not that you are not good looking as is...I just thought this detail was somehow missing...anyway I could be just in need of stronger meds, who knows...well my cat knows...but he is not saying anything...not anything useful...just stuff like he wants some uranium shavings and cocoa nibs...I mean seriously, who says that? ;D Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: The_Night on October 03, 2012, 07:57:53 PM i agree, a cloak would look good with it. i think better than a robe would in this case. also maybe a sash or obi to go under the belt, the leather on leather looks a bit off (especially as the browns don't quite match). it would add a bit of color in as well. maybe a dark/ muted red or a navy blue or something. i agree, an open sleeve would make it look more jedi and less renaissance. and belt pouches are always a good cheap addition :)
Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Wolfknight on October 03, 2012, 08:09:21 PM Okay, thanks for all the input guys! I am at work, so cant do nuthing right now, but later on tonight I will see about trying some new additions and some diffierent things and post the pics up. Hey Jedi relmeob, I like tha face tat idea. Is there anywhere online where you can buy inexpensive temporary face tats?
Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Manroon on October 03, 2012, 09:37:00 PM The face tat is a neat idea. Chakotay is always win. ;)
I think a neat idea would be to combine the roman half cape with traditional tabbards, tucked under an obi beneath the belt. That way you can still see much of the armor, but it's softened with a traditional element of Jedi garb on the front, and a unique bit with the half cape cloak deal on the back. That would look sweet, IMO. :) Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Master Rel on October 04, 2012, 12:39:49 AM Okay, thanks for all the input guys! I can direct but I would think to just draw/paint them on...as a strong temp tattoo can last for days...and then you must explain at work, church, etc. Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Wolfknight on October 04, 2012, 12:49:48 AM I can direct but I would think to just draw/paint them on...as a strong temp tattoo can last for days...and then you must explain at work, church, etc. okay. any experience with what to use ,to draw one on, that washes off more effectivley? Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Wolfknight on October 04, 2012, 01:07:44 AM Okay, new pics. The gambeson is actualy brown corduroy with brass studs. I know its probably hard to tell from my pics. LOL This is with the sleaves attached for more of a jacket type of look, which was sugested. Also added black gauntlets, and some green linen that I had laying around, under the belt ( that was the color the wife sugested) I also have some maroon linen ,and some black velvet scraps that could be used under the belt also. I got pics with and without my cloak. Also my boots can be turned up or down.

When I get home tonight I will 'shop the pic a bit. ;D Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Manroon on October 04, 2012, 01:20:21 AM I'd say keep it just like that, cloak and all, boots turned down, but nix the sleeves. Keep the gauntlets. Gauntlets rule. Then you've got an awesome look. I love the green obi, btw, it makes for a most Corellian look with the Brown and all. Very win. 8)
Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Oramac on October 04, 2012, 01:25:56 AM (http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o214/Foe_Hammer/PA030008.jpg) Honestly, this is my favorite one. It reminds me a lot of the Jedi Sentinel armor in SWTOR actually. The leather tassels (or w/e they're called) hanging down the center of the chest are a bit out of place imo, but overall a great look. I also like the cloak, though I would probably lean towards a lighter tan color to offset the dark leather. EDIT: where did you get the gloves? They look really good with it. Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Wolfknight on October 04, 2012, 01:32:22 AM I got the gloves many moons ago from a leather merchant at an SCA event... which would be the medievil equivalent of a con I guess. LOL they are just simpel black deerskin leather gauntlets.

The sleeves were giving it a count dooku kinda feel.
BTW, I see your Halo Mega Blocks. That was the set with the Gold Spartans, wasn't it? *is envious* lol Seriously though, that looks great right there. I'd say it's a keeper of a Jedi costume. Maybe pick up good couple of leather pouches for the belt, if that's your style, but it looks great. Excellent work. :) Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Master Rel on October 04, 2012, 03:04:07 AM I just got home and looked at the pics again...dude...that whole getup looks hot as a mo'fo!
Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Zephon on October 04, 2012, 03:20:43 AM Looks great man, definitely comes together nicely.
Side note: I'm sure besides the sleeves, the beard also gives it a Count Dooku kinda feel. ;) Lol, I'm a lil envious of facial hair. I miss mine. I am going to look into some leather pouches. cabelas has some little leather pouches for ruger 10/22 mags (the 10 rounders) That I think will work perfect. Also its a costume pleather belt so possibly I am going to be looking into finding the proper rivets to replicate it in real leather. The spartans in that set are more yellow than gold really but they are still cool. Thats the other thing I am collecting for my baby boy, Halo megablocks and Star Wars action figures. His eight birthday is going to be EPIC! Mabey I will also make a red or maroon obi to wear with the sleaves for more of a millitant darker side costume. That would probably look bad @ss with the face tat that Jedi relmeob was talking about! Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Zephon on October 04, 2012, 03:41:45 AM LOL Thanks bro! Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Master Rel on October 04, 2012, 04:27:17 AM I threw this together real quick, yours had been saved to TV aspect so it made my shopping difficult lol...I do not think this is better, just wanted it out of my head :)

I have that same product. I even use it occasionally for Renaissance Faires. It certainly looks nice but to be honest, at least from a Ren. Faire perspective, it's not too terribly original mainly because nearly every faire I attend there is at least 2-3 other people wearing the same thing, hence I wear the under-sleeve addition but with the sleeves removed, which sadly makes the whole getup look really plain and... brown. Regardless, it looks nice but I'm not so sure it works for being specifically a Star Wars character. The studded gambeson looks really good on you, a lot better than it does on me and that Jedi belt is spectacular, but the only thing that's separating it from being a Renaissance Faire costume would be the Ultrasaber and maybe the belt. I'd like to think that a tunic, leather jerkin, plain vest, or fancy doublet would be more Star Wars appropriate then that particular item, but it's mainly the studs that are throwing it off. I'm not trying to be too rejecting of it though. On you, it looks fantastic and it is a great start to a Star Wars costume. :) Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Tasardur on October 04, 2012, 06:56:37 AM Medieval reenactment? SCA?
I love the outfit btw, it's totally my style. Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Wolfknight on October 04, 2012, 11:09:23 AM Medieval reenactment? SCA? That's what we used to remove stage make-up so it works with just about anything. Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Wolfknight on October 04, 2012, 02:56:49 PM Cool! Thanks Master N!

Adding the pouches will look awesome too. And they're about the right size to hold blaster pistol reloads too. So they'd work with a smuggler or bounty hunter costume as well. Agreed here...a trio of standard eyeliner pencils will go a long way...black or dark smoke gray, deep blue or indigo, and a brown that is several shades darker than your skin (unless your skin is very dark then go the other way). Layer the blue as a base, use the black to fine line the tips and fine edges of the tattoo, and then the brown to create depth in swirls, whorls, and bends. :) Title: Re: Wolfs Jedi outfit Post by: Tasardur on October 04, 2012, 08:28:36 PM SCA = Society for Creative Anachronism I used to be into the heavy combat, which is kinda like hitting people that are heavily armoured with a weapon made out of stck of rattan.
