So I thought it would be cool to create my own saber. Being new to this and not knowing much about technology I need some helpful tips and advice. What is a bare minimum list of parts for a functioning saber, with light and sound? Price doesn't matter, I'm looking for quality. Trying to create a sith looking light saber, but one that can have a red, yellow, and blue blade. Is that possible? Also don't know whether to use ultra edge or just clear blades. Don't want a heavy blade though. Are the sabers rechargeable? Can you plug them in via USB or electrical socket or what?

I just need to know what I have to get to make it function properly, before I can make it look cool!

Any help would be much appreciated!

right. lets get started.
full functioning saber you need:
LED module of your choice
buckpuck
battery holder with speaker
obsidian sound board
momentary latching switch
hilt
blade.

red yellow and blue saber? not really, there is the RGB option which gives you several colours, red yellow and blue amongst them, or a sigle colour with another colour for the clash (FOC)

blade options are down to preference really, most colours look good with UE blades - but most people agree that colours like red and orange look better with normal.

the batteries themselves are rechargable, but you have to charge them out of the saber. there is a way to add a recharge port - im sure someone will add a link to a thread to help you out.

as for wiring, i cannot help, sorry! there are more technical people here, im sure they will help. they will also add anything i have missed.

welcome to the forum, good luck on your first build!!!

assuming you are a sith, it gives me great pleasure to present you with your first darkside point.

Well, IMO, it'd be best to start with a soundless saber, if you're building it yourself.  Adding sound might be a bit complex for someone new to wiring.  I'm not even sure how the soundboard is wired into an RGB saber.

Faa-Yal's list is mostly complete, but to add RGB capabilities, it's a bit different.  Here are the items that would change.

RGB LED module.  Arctic Blue, Sunrider's Destiny, and Violet Amethyst are all RGB colors.  You'll need the RGB for the color mixing.
Momentary switch.
3x Guarded Latching switches.

Tools and materials you'd need are:
Soldering Iron,
Solder,
Heat Shrink,
Electrical Tape,
Wire.

glad you remembered to put in what tools he would need, Kaiden. Dipso here forgot. duh. oh, and in my last post - there is no such thing as a momentary latching switch - either momentary or latching. the momentary is the one you would need.

if you just decide to do a single colour stunt (light only, no sound) then it would be easier, as master shardsbane suggests.

buckpuck
latching switch
LED module of your choice
battery pack (i think its 4 AAA for blue, green LED etc, 2 AAA for red, orange etc.
hilt and blade.

If doing a stunt saber without sound here is what u will want to do.  Get and RGB LED wire each color to a latching switch this will give all the main colors and the ability to color mix by activating more than one switch at a time, for instance if press red and blue switch at same time gives u purple.  If going with sound u will use similar setup for the colors and switching but u will need a momentary master switch to activate the soundboard, the sound install is a little trickier if doing RGB so i would do your homework or e-mail staff they might make suggestion on how to wire RGB with Obsidian

Vasal,  welcome to the forum.  I am including a link to my thread of my video diary of converting an Overlord into sound.  It should give you some help along the way.

We are all here to give you any help that you need.  An RGB saber will give you up to 7 different colors from one LED or you can choose a hilt design that allows you access to the LED unit so that you can switch out LED when you need to do such.  Either way is great.

Or he could just use QD if he can figure out how to wire them or if Ultra tells him.

Well I know it's not quite what you asked but with what people have been getting lately you might just want to try a grab bag saber. How ever that being said if you want to add econo sound here is the tread of my tutorial. Hope it helps.
