Very close...I was getting out of the military, retiring for active duty, had my final physical completed on a Tuesday and got a call on Friday at 1658 (4:58), two minutes before close of business for the weekend... "This is Dr (whatever...I don't remember the name), several of your tests came back and have alarming results, you must be here Monday morning so we can run a new battery of tests, plan to be admitted to the hospital...it looks like stage 4 cancer of the liver, but we need those tests to be sure" So here I am getting ready to drive home and talk about our long awaited vacation with the kids...I did not say anything...kept it to myself. Got to the clinic early, waited for the doctor to arrive, he put his hand on my shoulder, and said... "There was a mistake at the testing facility, your test results all came back perfect...your sample was mislabeled with an 80yr old man with liver cancer...sorry for the confusion" Sigh. Have you ever farted in public and adamantly blamed it on someone else?  |
