I'd have to evaluate the pros and cons of each type before making a decision...

Hmm i guess i would strive for abilitys which make me a formidable sit and wait predator.
An ambusher who may decide if the victim in its territory is worth the risk of being hurt by the nutrients provided or not.
Like a Tunnelspider.

I believe something that could make that happen is a hormon change which alters my smell into = undetectable or maybe even smelling after something my prey eats while i sit in the dark and wait for the single killing blow.

So im night active and sleep during the day. I am fiercly territorial and never leave my block. I dont hunt I hide there where my prey could get water and or nutrients. And I look forward for a one shot kill.

In mutations:

Hormonealteration (undetectable by smell) (Adrenalinsurge on demand for the last hit)
Nightsight / echolot
Maybe a claivelike enhancement like Barraka from Mortal Combat.

Egads! That is a very specific thought, we approve Smiley

So what you are saying is that your mutant would be a great team player?

Seriously, good thoughts!

As a teamplayer he would be more than perfect since he brings food home yet is not able to defend itself a lot and neads time to regenerate if hit or to get feed when ill. One like him would know the strength in numbers.
And due to his mutations he is able to act as a alarmsystem at nights for other who favor the darkness as its ally.

I can see him as a praised member of a group. WIth a high sense fortactical positioning of a short time shelter and other wards.

I had problems finding the front and/or the back at first but yes something like this in human shape would work. Smiley
The flyingpart is not needed and way to powerful in my opinion for nearly any RPG but the scythelike arms are on the way i was thinking of.

If you liked the basic form of this creature, it does not fly, it glides from high point to a lower point.

In a setting where there the pure strain humans (PSH, no mutations) are limited in numbers and thus most communities shun mutants as future killers...once mutant there is no going back to human in the common man's mind.

In this game setting would you still choose to be a mutant just to gain access to the potential of powers/abilities?

And if yes...would you still be willing to accept these mutations if they came with outward evidence of the mutation?

So to be clear, if you took mutations for your character...the character would clearly be a mutant...be it cosmetic or functional, there would be some outward indicator.

Mutant or PSH?

Mutant or PSH?

I see it a bit as total recall (the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger) both communities will strive and have to care for one another so rather a PSH or a Mutant the most important thing for the game is set. A community and social interaction. With NSCīs as well as playercharackters.
I see drama, tragedy and heroism between the fight for survival for both sides so i would say since i am a PSH in normal life i would go for the mutant for the sake of fantasy and fun. We are all normal  in real life. Smiley
And In a community/world with mutants you dont look ugly when you are the same as everybody else. The hivethought will be already developed early i guess in such an event where mutants grow out of the masses and become a approximately 50% of the worlds population.

In this setting it is likely that a mutant would and could expect poor to aggressive treatment just based upon being a mutant by the PSH communities...which would by proxy have most of the resources and settlements.

I also would create a mutant character.

Judge the dog not the breed.

Cheesy

In one such game with this sort of setting I had a mutant character with magnetic sensitivity, which in a low tech sort of setting seemed to be a poor ability but with practice and imagination we worked out a few marketable skills...water finding, metal detection, and map making (being a natural compass).

His mutant appearance albino and fleshy antennas, like this

But because he served a real marketable function he was not stoned when coming into town lol...but needed to be escorted to protect the women folk  Smiley

As a fan of many sources of science fiction and science fantasy I do appreciate mutations...functional mutations...because in most cases real world mutations end in sadness.

But if I could have a mutation it would relate to living in the ocean or some body of water, full time.

So a package deal might be nice...full functional gills, water in the mouth and nose passes through the lungs and out gill slits at the floating ribs...skin and sensory modified for underwater use...some sort of echo location would be nice, like a danger sense...enlarged hands and feet with webbing.

Yes that would be nice.

Ok how about this thought...

...you can have the standard Force powers found in video games and related SW media, even the OP stuff but...and here is the big ol' see it coming a mile away butt...the level of the power and the amount of powers is directly related in proportion to your character's looks and body.

Basic TK push and pull, a bit of suggestion, healing touch...looks human enough.

The "I can do anything with my TK power" TK power pool...this would reflect in many ways, mental and physical...a huge head, better to process that massive amount of energy...most likely no hair and an odd looking skin due to the excess energy wasting it away...so basically...

Yeah yeah I know..."well I would be good at illusions and just make everyone think I look perfectly normal".  But no power is always on, and the use costs energy...so if this were in your laundry list of powers, you could fool some of the people some of the time but never all teh people all of the time.

Would you accept hideous mutations to gain access to the OP abilities...or...would you be satisfied with the lower tier abilities and still look in a manner that does not make babies cry?
