Guardian from the Corellian Jedi Order

« on: March 14, 2014, 05:38:36 PM »

Im not sure if i will get any reward points (not a huge concern - just happy to review)
I dont have the means to record a video review.

THE BELLICOSE

First off this saber is gorgeous. It feels like youre holding onto something thats really a functional saber. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to make the jump up to premium sabers.
Its weighty and solid.
The sound from the obsidian card is loud and attention grabbing.
The Button is a nice touch and eye catching.
The angled emitter is a really nice touch that i think brings the overall design together. It’s a very nice hilt.

My only gripes:
Its wider than i expected it to be. I dont have large hands so this so something to get used to. (which i just felt like it needed to be said for those looking to get this saber.) With practice i can now swing and spin it between my fingers like any other saber.
When i took the bronze button off (just experimenting) it took some patience to get it to screw back on. The set screw is extremely short and goes inside the button so it takes a gentle touch to get the threads to catch.
switching out the blade can be a chore with the blade holder. US didn’t ship the wrench required to remove the blade holder. (I was lucky to have one)
The blade holder itself feeling shaky. Swinging it around, movement with the blade is noticeable. I have the screw as tight as it can go but it still moves. I think a slightly longer set screw will fix this. ill have to confirm that when i get around to it. The blade isnt going anywhere but its always on your mind.
Last thing is the LED inside the hilt rattles. you can easily feel and hear it over the Obsidian sound card.

all-in-all i would still recommend this hilt. Im sure the LED rattle is just my saber. It’s a great product and i would still buy from ultrasabers again.

THE ARBITER

I have to admit ive never looked at the arbiter. The hilt being completely silver is sort of boring for my taste. I think I will paint this with black or copper color spray paint and add a leather wrap to it to give it more depth. (maybe – this was gifted to my wife so it’s her call)
The hilt is extremely well balance and feels incredible when youre doing swings and flourishes. The long hilt allows easy transition from one hand to another. The emitter is a nice touch and the width of the pommel lets you feel assured it won’t slip out of your hand.
The Hilt itself with all of the electronics feels solid and there no rattles at all. Im very happy with the product and would recommend it to those looking to customize it with other MHS parts. Combinations can be limitless. Well done Ultrasabers.

Hope this helps with others in their decision making.

i used some electrical tape on the blade holder to pad it out, also the blade needs to be lower than the bottom edge of the blade holder and it will push on the mls and should stop any rattles from that, not to much or the blade holder will not sit down flush you will soon get it im sure  Grin

I tried that tape trick for my Bellicose blade holder and the tape was too thick for mine. Nice Bellicose though. What blade color is yours? Mine's Guardian Blue. =] I would just leave the blade 1 or 2 inches past the blade holder, that's what I do.

one or two inches sounds allot thats 25.4 mm - 50.8 mm, is your blade holder not sitting very high?  i have around 11 mm below my blade holder 7/16 of an inch, and this works fine but maybe im miss understanding what you mean.

Changed out the set screw and the blade no longer wobbles.
The LED still rattles so I'm definitely trying out the tape trick, if anything to soften the noise.

Just be careful with tape on the led it can get stuck, just to make thing clear i did not use tape on my led just the blade holder, you are getting a rattle from the led as the blade holder is not long enough to put pressure on the led and hold it in place.

Please try using the blade to hold the led, go back to my earlier  photo showing few mill extend beyond the holder, when you get the right amount the blade will push on the led (should stop any rattle) and blade holder will still be flush with the body ( you may have to press down firmly to achieve this) 90% this will work.

There's plenty of wiggle room actually. Just a single wrap should take care of it.

As previously mentioned, I also use electrical tape layered once around my MLS unit and in my bellicose, it has no problem getting stuck ever. However, the same trick doesn't work in my arbiter, so I use clear tape on two sides, and this solves the issue in my other saber as well. Just wished to add a little testimony!

It might be the fact that the blade is out from the holder a few millimeters like that. When it is, it sits on the MLS and keeps it secure. It's most likely the MLS that's rattling a little bit - the same way an LED based setup would if you didn't keep the blade down firmly on it when tightening it down. The tape would probably keep it even tighter... not a bad idea! Point for that, and awesome sabers!

If the MLS is still a little loose, forego the tape on MLS and make sure the blade sticks out another millimeter or two to 'squash it down'.
