Might Start MY Jedi Costume Tonight

So I just had a quick question. Found cheap but good cotton at Wal Mart to use for my costume, its one of the ones with multiple colors, picked some good colors out I think. I was wondering if 2 yards was enough fabric for everything including the robe. If so then I'm set because its like 5 something and I got 20 bucks on me. I got a thin leather belt I can use for a more classic look so all I'd need is brown, well, better boots and a different saber to use. I'm going to wait to show case my costume until that new prototype saber comes out. So let me know quick on this. Thanks. =] Hope you guys like my idea.

Actually going OT with my costume. I actually surprisingly found a mock neck shirt at Wal Mart tonight, decided to go black since I already got black dress pants I can use, so I'm basically half way done. Do OT style Jedi's do the full get up, tabbards/obi and such? If not then I'm pretty much done other than proper boots, robe, and a different saber. I could just wear my belt Luke ROTJ style how he just had his shirt tucked under type thing. Let me know what you guys think. =] Might order me a black robe from Kloe's on ETSY. Or just still make my own. If I'd need the tabbards/obi part then I'll try to pull it off. I'll also need a smaller size real Dickies pants because the ones I have now even with the belt as tight as it can go they are still too large on me. Or I could just use a pair of my every day black jeans? They are like Wrangler style jeans or would that be a no go and just stick with Dickies?

What do you guys think so far? I was lucky to find this shirt. I'm actually using my George brand dress pants because it matches with the shirt better I think. I plan to get a better belt as well. I'm doing a mix of both gens, OT and PT styles, so this type outfit, then tabbards/obi, then PT style belt with PT gooodies and such. =] Not sure what color to do the tabbards/obi in though. Might do a medium grey color to break things up a bit. Just thought I'd give an early preview of what's to come. =] I don't think my costume is Dark Side at all.

Looking good! As far as I know OT jedi can have the full tabbards/obi get up, but more often that not they don't.

Then I'm pretty much set. Just need a more realistic belt and proper boots. And belt goodies of course.

Yeah I decided to keep the costume as is and to think that this one could go both ways which I might do just for fun. Getting a black Reaper in Blazing Red for when I feel Sithy, lol, and an Dominix V3 in Consular Green for Jedi, then that new possible V4 saber in Guardian Blue as well. =] I'll have to find just a single piece, more proper belt though but I don't want a Luke ROTJ look. I'll look around and post updates when I can. =]

Also is this good for a single layer type belt thing? Love the design on the leather and would this be long enough as well? And I found a good buckle to go with my project. =] Getting the antic silver finished one for the buckle. =] I'll be taking the back loop thing off so I can just plaster the buckle onto the belt.

Now I have another buddy saying that leather is too thin for just a one piece belt. Should I keep looking for a thicker leather? I don't want to have to spend too much though on a simple project.

Could you just use one of these belts?  You could find some way to attach that buckle and it wouldn't look too bad and you could probably add any other decorations you wanted to it.  Could be a decent base for customizing.

Nah I want to make my own. =] I'll look around for thicker leather though if needed. Or maybe get just a plain black belt that's wide enough then just add the buckle on. Probably be a lot easier for now.

Have you looked at Tandy Leather?  They have lots of different belt blanks for sale and I wouldn't think quality would be a problem ordering from them.

That is not real leather. It is faux leather and it says it is upholstery weight meaning it is paper thin. It will make for a very lousy belt and you will not be happy with it.

I highly recommend that you go with Tandy.  It will cost a little more but good leather will always cost more. Or if you are on a budget, look for a plain tool belt that you can dye. Or a wide store bought belt, even if it.is from the women's fashion department.

I looked at Tandy and all they got is light tan but that would throw off my black costume theme and I don't know how to dye or have the money for the stuff. I could just look up blank black leather belts I guess. I'll keep updates though. I did get brown pouches and black caps though tonight so nearly there. Wanted to break the colors up some. =] My character is the type that don't care for a lot of tech or anything so one pouch and two capsules on both sides of the belt.
