Hi all

Interesting thread, and practical too!
Is there any update on the lamadiluce gloves - web availability? The website still appears to be a work in progress. I am in the UK.

thanks!

Are there any pictures around of these gloves?

Thanks

These are the gloves that are specifically produced by the brand LAMADILUCE for Ludosport.

The gloves are very flexible to maximize mobility. The back of the hand and the fingers are all substantially padded to absorb hits; padding is specifically placed in locations that are often hit in our sport but which police gloves (e.g. the VEGA OG16 that many of us have) usually don't protect, like the side of the thumb. The gloves partially cover the wrists, but most students wear a sweatband anyway (here in Genoa they have class sweatbands, actually) so we wouldn't want integral protection. The palm has a great grip, with padding in some places to minimize wear and reduce shock for the wrist and arm.  They are sturdier than they look, actually, and have been heavily tested this summer at the Boot Camp, with very intensive use and no damage to the wearers.

Of course the gloves are also designed to be pleasant to the eye, but they are optimized for combat.

Hi - see page 1 of the thread - Ander's post. You can follow his link to the site where , one day, you might be able to buy them, but it seems like WIP.

In the meantime, in the UK,  "The Knight Shop" seems to have some very similar gloves designed for medieval longsword sparring - designed for use with acrylic / blunt steel longswords. These are much heavier than our beloved light sabers so should do the trick. We are going up that way, to north Wales, on holiday in a few weeks so I'm going to go and have a look at them. If you go to their site look under WMA / HEMA.

BTW, the Lamadiluce gloves are currently being updated with a newer model, of which there is a prototype, so I shall have some more pictures for you soon.

My pleasure Insomniac. No trouble.

Ander - great news - will you share a photo and where we can get them from when you have the revamped version? They still look very good and I'd like to try some. Thanks, in ( eager) anticipation Smiley

I will, but I have no idea when they will be available.
Your best bet if you need them now is the current type, or an alternative from Vega Holster.

Thank you Ander.

I tried your link to Lamadiluce's site in one of your earlier posts ( on page 1) but I just got a "coming soon" message. Do you know where I can get some of the current Lama di Luce gloves from please?

I will also have a look at the Vega gloves, as an interim, thanks for the steer.

good sparring!

The Vega OG16s are very good indeed, I have had a pair for a year and a half, which I bought before the lamadiluce were announced, and they are still going strong after around 200 hours of use.

With respect to the lamadiluce, which cost more or less the same, I'd say that they are

- somewhat sturdier (good)
- a little bit stiffer (not good)
- do not have additional protection in some points [notably: index tip (for shooting, me thinks), side of index and thumb] where impacts are likely in our sport
- offer heavier protection where you do have protection
- offer a little better coverage of the wrist (wristbands can negate this advantage)
- have a little worse grip due to thicker palm (though by all means not bad)
- less classy Cheesy

Keep in mind that when you get them they will seem VERY stiff. This is normal for leather. Just use them and you'll notice the difference in a few hours. You'll also have your hand colored by the leather the first times you use them, but it washes away. If you do wash the gloves every now and then, take notice that they will be stiffer again for a while.

Good choice, probably the best of non-dedicated gloves.

You can get these completely customized. Whatever color(s)/color combo you want, palm material, etc. You can even get the logo blacked out to use them for a Sith costume, if that's your thing.

Which are most flexible of those? Looks like Dynasty AX1 Gloves.

Darth Nonymous at TPLA had a couple of videos on gloves. One was on Red Dragon Gloves which looked really good protection but not so flexible grip. In UK these cost about £42 which is comparable to Hockey and Lacrosse gloves in UK.  I ended up going for his recommendation of Lacrosse gloves for general sparring etc.

However the nice thing about the Warrior Gloves would be that could customise them to match a costume.

Could n't see the cost for these customisable gloves.

Cheers

The Dynasty gloves are what they call a "Traditional" or "Volume" fit. Which means they fit looser. The Covert gloves are a more tapered fit (they fit more snuggly in the fingers, then taper to a volume fit at the wrist). These gloves are used by quite a few NHL players, so dexterity should not be an issue, they'll have plenty of flexibility enough for sword fighting.

Sadly, you need to order them from a Warrior dealer(they also make soccer and lacrosse gear, so a soccer dealer may be able to do this for you), the builder just allows you to build them, then you give your build to the retailer and they order it.

Cool option!  Good explanation too, thanks TJ.  Point for you.

I'm a big fan of hockey gloves as sparring gloves myself.

I have followed Ander's advice and just bought a set of OG16s. They are very good - good protection and pretty flexible. The only place where the protection seems thin is the top of the thumb joint.

They arrived really quickly - one day from Palermo, so half way across Europe, which is pretty impressive .... fastest gloves in the galaxy ??

If you want something heavier, the Red Dragon gloves that Wargames Insomniac mentioned seem very good. I had spotted these before I followed Ander's tip on the OG16s. These are essentially modern versions of medieval gauntlets and they do two versions - one with plastic plates, the other with steel. They are designed for sparring with blunt steel longswords, for Historic European Martial Arts ( HEMA). I have done a bit of this and can tell you that the extra protection over flexibility is definetly recommended for weapons that heavy.

For me, for now, the OG16s seem a pretty good balance between enough protection and flexibility, so I'm sorted for now.

Good thread though, thanks for sharing the details folks - points for taking the time Smiley
