I have been checking out the various DotD whilst Summer Raffle is in.
Weighing up Dark Catalyst, Dark Arbiter and Dark Liberator, all with Sound. What can I say - I love mx of silver and anodised black on my Sabers!! I like windows in emitter, and with the relative discounts, I am leaning towards thye Dark Libby. $20 off on $234 saber feels better value than $15 off on $264 saber.
Was going to go for HG Blade and Obsidian v4 Soundboard.
That gives me two decisions:
1) What colour blade? I already have CG, GB and BR, and RGB Blade so can do SY, VA or AB. I am torn between FO or SRD - or if I went for Forum Colours, PO or DVA. Like the idea of a olour that is ambiguous between Light Side and Dark Side. What olour goes well with Black and Silver Hilt.
2) What Pommel would suit the Dark Liberator? I like the look of Dark Shock Pommel, but think that grooves will spoil the clean lines of Dark Libby. How about Manticore Low or Raven Pommel? Would further accentuate the Silver.
Thanks
James

I'm a big fan of the Dark Libby V3, it's a great all around hilt to wield. Black and silver hilts tend to look great in any color, but in my experience Fire Orange is a little on the dim side compared to other colors... so I would go with SRD, or a Forum color like Pyrestone. Pommel wise, I like the default personally, keeps it simple.

I agree with Nero, a forum colour would look rich on a Dark Libby. I'd also suggest going for the Manticore low pommel. It keeps in profile with the hilt, and provides just enough sliver accent on the bottom.

1. On a mainly black hilt, I suspect Dark Violet may look as though the batteries are under-charged. It's a great colour (I prefer it to standard Violet) but not sure it would work on the Dark Liberator. The colours I'd probably go for would be Fire Orange or Sunrider's Destiny as the brightest of the group. Orange would be the more ambiguous of the two, I think.
2. The Raven SS would be a decent mix of black and sillver. The plain might be a bit overwhelming. Have you had a look at the Malice Round pommel? It's got gentle curves like the Liberator's choke, and it's about 50:50 black and silver. I'd also suggest the Dark War Glaive pommels, but I think they're a bit too long.

Thanks guys.
Have sent Emory an email just to double check about how much it is to upgrade to Forum Colours. Would affect what upgrades I would need to get to nudge over the $250 minimum for Raffle entry.
I know from email from Emory for my last purchase that both shipping and any requisition charges do NOT count to the $min. Thus I could nt use the $5 requisition charge for Forum Colours to qualify. No big deal but I need to weigh that up with my other upgrades.
Dark Liberator is noted as being 1.42" wide. Raven SS Edition Pommel Outer Diamater at largest point: 1.6 inches Malice Round Pommel Outer Diamater at largest point: 1.7 inches Dark War Glaive Pommel Outer Diamater at largest point: 1.8 inches Would the diameter of these Pommels suggested spoil the clean lines of Dark Libby? Given that Pommel would be wider than Hilt?
Has anyone put a Mantciore Low Pommel on a Libby/Dark Libby?
Cheers
James

Whoa, whoa, whoa....what?? Everyone by now surely knows shipping doesn't count towards the minimum. Heck that gets asked almost daily. But what's this about requisition charges NOT counting? Why the hell not? Something like paying for a forum color is absolutely spending money on something tangible.

I have the Manticore low pommel, and it fits flush with the OD of my son's Prophecy and my Dark InitiateLE V3. Whoa, whoa, whoa....what?? Everyone by now surely knows shipping doesn't count towards the minimum. Heck that gets asked almost daily.

I'm guessing it's like this due to req charges being used for tangible and non-tangible things: such as custom covertec wheel holes, drilling extra retention screw holes, paying for out of warranty repair ect.

One observation I have with my Liberator, it is a light hilt. If you put an UE blade in it, the weight causes a slight off balance, at least for me. Putting a 32" MG changed that. A weighted pommel may make a difference but I did not venture that. I do have it in FO in it is quite attractive. Reminds me of Halloween!

Thanks hazard. Good to know. Yes in my last order I wanted to put Li-ion batteries and Buckpack in free Initiate - I am going for that setup in ALL my Sabers. I had to add requisition charges for Li-ion cost and Emory clarified that would NOT count to Summer Deals $minimum.

Groovidad - did you have sound in your Libby? That and weighted Pommel should help with balance. Yes going for 32" blade so don't catch on ground. Going for HG as I do for all my low - mid level Sabers so can use for duelling if necessary.

I do. I'm not a UE or HG user with spinning practice yet, it came with an UE (bought outside of US). I replaced the UE and found it to be quite accommodating. I do use them for combat practice as it is just proper.

I read on Forum that should nt mix Heavygrade versus Midgrade blades duelling each other. I started with Heavygrade blade on my Dominix as I wanted as durable as possible. I plan on sticking with UEHG/HG (depending on colour of Blade) for Low - Mid Level Hilts, so that I can use if I can persuade my friends to try some duelling. I will probably go for UEMG/MG (depending on colour of Blade) for any High Level Preimum Hilts which will be more for display, cosplay and only light sparring. Points for helpful advice. Cheers James

As a follow up question, how do Ultrasabers achieve FO and PO Colours? Please EXCLUDE Emerald from this. Do they simply use combinations of filters? I have spent a fair bit of time this morning checking out links in this thread: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=15681.msg243214#msg243214Quite a wide variety in colour tones here. Some of which is, I gather, down to using AAA or Li-Ion batteries. As I have said before I will be using Li-Ion batteries, as in all my sabers. Thanks James

I believe fire Orange is made from a single diode Amber LED. Hence why it's considered one of the basic colors offered.
I don't recall what the color mix for PO is, but it's likely two colors mixed.

As far as I know, the premium colours are all made using the more expensive RGB LED units, rather than the cheaper single colour units used to get green, red and blue. You can also 'retune' them by swapping wires around to get purple, pink and so on.
Pyrestone Orange is made by mixing red and green, I believe. Same colours set differently give Sentinel Yellow.
Violet,Dark Violet, Bane's Heart and Hot Pink all come from red and blue.
Sunrider's Destiny and Emerald Green both come from blue and green.
I thought that Adegan Silver was all three firing equally, but I may be wrong there. Anyone?
