Light, Dark, both extremes annoy me

« on: March 25, 2016, 10:43:46 PM »

There's been an increasing number of people interested in Saber pikes
so I thought i'd start this thread to post vids of saber pikes in action, both in sparring and drills

first up is a free-for-all at MCM Birmingham.....I had fun terrorising people with my saber pike

nice moves and nice costumes! my pike is  a 36 blade, my dark standard and one yari. i wonder if the weight of two yaris is a bit overwhelming. double sabers can get heavy, so does two yaris feel a bit too much? here is me trying my pike out. my goal was to fight defensively, side note my gloves are slippery

honestly I don't find the extensions to be too heavy, but i'm used to using heavier weapons (6.5 foot pole axe) which is probably why
as you train with it more you'll get used to the weight and balance of it

Thanks a lot, my form is still sloppy since it is mostly instinct and the force guiding me but I am improving each fight

Wow no wonder you are so natural,  I'll have to practice more

What pike configuration do you all recommend? like blade length wise and hilt length

I ordered a 24" blade with my three extension pike.  I'd like a 16" too I think though.

Hmm, maybe I'll give that a shot. If for the experience if nothing else.

Give which a shot? A third extension? A longer blade? A shorter one?

If I should clearly know the answer, please excuse me - it's 3:49am.

I use a 36 migrade blade (to keep it lighter)with my dark standard which is about 12 inches and a yari(14 inches) this puts it about 5 foot 5 which is more like a javelin which is nice because you get a fair amount of range and you can always switch it up and use it as a long sword for a few power moves to throw your opponent off then go back into a spear style .

Having two yaris might give you too much handle to do this stype switch bUT a master might be able to. I like having a big blade on it because you attack with the tip then use the back end of the blade to block,  especially when fighting a dual weilding  opponent. If that makes sense.

Also using a hilt that doesn't have a covertech wheel makes it easier to move your hands around all that hilt when you get into fast moves in the heat of battle.

I've hardly tried it out yet, but when I have, I've noticed the massive range I get.  Opponents can't really get near me...lol

Doing any type of fast, or aggressive moves will be tricky...I'm trying to picture how to do it mentally...(hindered constantly by the weather right now - I ought to start building an ark).

I hope to post a vid soon of my GF and I.  She has a staff - that will be interesting...lol

I've got a 36" heavy grade on mine, that way I can take the extensions off and beat my brother with it in normal saber configuration when he's whinging about me "cheating"......still kick is ass
