Tunic is what they wear UNDER the robes.

The robes are the flowy part on the outside.

So it really depends on what you want first.

yea i knew that, just wanted to ask what other people's opinions were, or what their experience was.

the robe seems like a good first choice since it will cover up everything under.

Oh sorry mate.

The robes first. Megan is making all of our costume, because that's what she does and the robes were the cheapest.

But we spent a lot on movie quality material to make it. Ism what prices are like at twin roses but I know they do good stuff. Some of the materials aren't movie quality but you can't tell.

If ur going to invest I'd say get the robes first.

Tunic(s) If you go traditional Jedi/Sith outfit, then getting the Robe and carrying a saber will make you easily recognizable.... but getting the tunic and tabbards will get you compliments, if you know what I mean. The robes, no offense to those who prefer them, are sort of everywhere. The tunics aren't, and people see them with the saber and remember that there's never a robe in a fight scene in the movies, plus they see a more detailed looking costume.

It must be nice to have money to waste on crap like this. Wouldn't it be easier to just burn? It'd be just as wasteful and you don't have to worry about shipping.

yea i been eyeing twin rose for a while.  the stuff they make the tunics out of looks sweet.  i think its called oatmeal onsaburg cotton.  the robes are either cotton or wool.  but wool costs more.

yea robe really pulls together the outfit.  and like i said it really holds up by itself since it hides all thats under.  so could essentially wear anything under there, but everyone will know you're rockin the jedi robe.

It must be nice to have money to waste on crap like this.

yea it is  Grin

The robe is important, don't get me wrong.  The tunic however, is the bare bones of the Jedi garments so I would say go for that first.

My advice is typically based on Artorius's costume choice - go with a nice robe from a place like Twin Roses, custom tailored to your measurements, and use a karate uniform for the tunic and pants.  Grab some boots and a belt and you're good to go!

when Obi-wan fights Vader in the A New Hope, Obi-wan is in a robe.  It's a lot thinner looking than the prequel ones, but it's a robe.

I agree with this, if I were making a normal tunic. But I doing something different so its going to take concerto make.

But if I had the tunic I would walk around in it because I've always wanted to.

seems that tunic has it's merits.  it just looks comfortable on the twin rose site.

but he also wasnt in super crazy fight mode like the prequel trilogy.

@Kev: Touche'

@Kham: Yeah. Walkin' around in that sucker is sweet.  Grin

And on what Nero said: It's true, the easiest way to do this costume thing is to plan and build with upgrading in mind. Grabbing a Gi makes a good tunic, and if you can rig up tabbards for it it looks even better. When you want to get a better tunic, you can use the Gi as an inner tunic or an outter if you like, tabbards can always be replaced with leather or pleather if that suits you, sash/obi and belts can always be added to, redone, replaced, or what have you, a good pair of boots will likely last you forever costume wise, and of course your covered on sabers or you wouldn't be here.... and a robe is just like the finishing touch. I think of it this way: A Jedi might not have always had his robe or cloak, but he ALWAYS had his tunic. Course if you're going Sith they'd wear just about anything. lol

Yeah the karate uniform works well, I have the Twin Roses tunic and it's pretty similar in design.  It is comfortable, though I didn't get the tabards and obi.  I've thought about making some of my own... gonna do it eventually.
