OK I am about to get my first US tomorrow. Does it come with instructions so the user knows how to use all the functions? For example... press switch once to turn on, twice for xyz, three times for abc etc. Basically does it come with an owners/user manual?

I've forgotten if mine came with that kind of instructions.

If it's a stuntsaber with no sound, you just click the button off and on. Unscrew the pommel to carefully slip the battery pack into a position so you can take the batteries out and swap them when needed. Don't take the battery pack too far out or you might stress the wires. Use a 5/64 allen wrench on the retention screw to remove the blade. I'd recommend a bit of tape around the base of the blade to help the screw bite without leaving an indention in the blade tube.

If it has sound, one button press is on. Another press will turn on blade lock up and again to turn back to regular mode. Hold it down to turn back off. While off, press and hold to cycle sound options. Press and hold to keep the selected setting. There are vids to show how to program sound fonts.

While off, press and hold to cycle sound options. Press and hold to keep the selected setting.

The above only applies to the Obsidian v4 board (which does come with basic instructions).  You cannot cycle sound fonts on the v3 or LITE boards.

I believe the chargers for the Li-Ion batteries also come with instructions, but since I only get stunt sabers or ones with recharge ports, I do not know for certain.

No, no instructions.  As Vivectius said, you get a sheet of paper with a brief (basic) explanation of Obsidian if you got the V4, but that's about it.  Though, in most cases, if you press the button, it turns on.  If you press and hold it on a sound saber, it turns off, on a stunt it turns off immediately when you press it.  And, of course, a long press while it's off will put you into font selection mode on the V4, as Vivectius also said.  If none of that works, you've gotta check your batteries.  My second saber (Sentinel V4) came with a loose battery.  I pressed the button and nothing happened.  I unscrewed the pommel and found the issue, then it fired right up.  Grin

Chargers do come with instructions, but only for charging the batteries, as it's made by a separate company and does come in a retail box.  If you got the VC2 Plus charger, you're really in for a treat as it will charge not only Li-Ion batteries but also Ni-CD and Ni-MH.  If not, I'm sure you still get a really nice charger.

As for figuring out other stuff about your saber, you can always take a look at the forum.  Deep has posts explaining a lot of stuff like Obsidian and Emerald, there are even YouTube videos showing the launchers and stuff.  And, of course, there are always forum members willing to answer questions.  One of the biggest strengths of this company is this forum, which is incredibly helpful.  Though, always remember to search first, as someone else has possibly already asked your question and gotten an answer.  Cool

Again Thank You. All great answers. I Have looked thru the forums and watched some videos on youtube on how to use the obsidian and emerald driver. I downloaded the program and installed it. Found the free fonts (thanx US). I think I have a good idea now how it all works. Guess I will find out soon as my sabers get delivered today.

...and beware of the 1SG saying "Hey Sir... watch and learn, this is how you get S**T done... Come 'ere PVT!"  As  PVT this is when you know you are about to get screwed... as a Specialist or a CPL this is when you know you are going to have to help the PVT cause he is too much of an FNG to know what to do... this is when as an NCO you know that you are going to have to supervise said PVT and Spec and CPL. Example of how stuff rolls down hill lol.

I agree KraytDragonPerl, when in doubt, blame the 1LT. Its a catch all safety net lol.

The best are the butter bar LTs straight out of West Point.  They know nothing but think they know everything.  So, then it's up to the platoon sergeant with 20 years in who makes less money to train them how the real Army works, not the West Point version.  Roll Eyes  We did have this one LT who came from ROTC.  At least he knew he didn't know anything.  Wink

All I got with mine was a list of the sound fonts and how to cycle through them.  It's really not that informative if you follow the forums and/or have watched Emory's videos and/or review videos where people show that.

Help please! I've somehow gotten my lost gray stuck on a soundfont (ancient saber) that I really dislike, and I'm trying to get it set back to Meridian. I thought I was supposed to hold down the power button while off to cycle through the sounds, but it doesn't cycle, it just stays on the same soundfont and then says "confirmed". Is there a video somewhere of how to properly cycling through the sounds with a saber? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you are stuck on ancient saber, what you want to do is...

With the power off, hold down the button to power on AND CONTINUE TO HOLD IT after power is on. You should hear the boot sound "ancient saber " and the led goes dark. At that point let go of the button! Push the button again to switch to the next sound font. You should hear a boot sound "obsidian" or whatever the next font is.  Press once to change between sound fonts. Press and hold to select the font you want.

I haven't had a V4 soundboard in a while. If I remember correctly that is how it works.
