Why they eliminated the lightsaber scene in ROTJ where Luke finishes building his lightsaber and activates it and C3PO is seen in the background, I have posted the scene in the Videos board. As to why it was eliminated, I am thinking because they wanted the green lightsaber to make its first appearance on the sail barge scene. That way, it makes a much more dramatic appearance and people get to see a green lightsaber for the first time in a scene that has much more action. The same reason why, in the Chronicles of Narnia, that the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe comes before Magician's Nephew, even though Magician's Nephew comes first chronologically, its best for readers to experience Aslan's first appearance at the stone table where he greets Peter and the others.

Definitely.  Him igniting it on the sail barge was a big deal, and it seemed like they deliberately didn't show him having it prior (of course it was in R2D2).

Also, because that scene sucked... don't get me wrong I LOVE Luke's ROTJ saber - it's the whole reason I love green sabers - but that scene was pretty much pointless.  You can infer that he constructed a new saber (and if you can't, Vader outright says it later on in the movie).

I always advocate watching the original trilogy first for a similar example - that "I am your father" moment at the end of ESB is just too awesome to spoil by watching them chronologically.  Granted it's become so ingrained in pop culture that even people who haven't seen Star Wars know that Vader is Luke's father, but still.  I showed someone the original trilogy and they weren't aware that (spoiler alert) Luke and Leia are brother and sister - he was so surprised!

I have a few friends who have never seen Star Wars.  Totally weird, I don't even know how that happens.  Granted they're girls, so I can forgive it I guess... but COME ON!  Who hasn't seen Star Wars?!?!  What kinda world do we live in?

I never let my son know until he saw the movie. I didn't let him see the movie until he was my age at the time it came out: six. That was a hard six years as it is almost impossible for any lay person to hear the words "Star Wars" and not impersonate (badly) Darth by quoting (incorrectly)  "Luke, I am your father."

I actually almost came to blows with my great uncle over this at a family Christmas party. He started talking Star Wars and I said, "Do not say anything about Darth being Luke's father. I'm keeping that secret until he sees the movie." He thought I was joking, said, "Isn't that knowledge public domain?" har har har! Really, he knew I wasn't joking, but, thought it would be no big deal to ignore it. Just a nerd movie right? I saw him laugh my demands off like a joke, so I said, "I've been waiting to share this moment with my son for basically 30 years. You ruin this for him and me, and I knock you out right here. Seriously." Again a chuckle... then realization.

Merry Irish Christmas!  Wink

Hahahaha classic Navajas... well done!  I bet my gf would do the same thing, she is violently opposed to spoilers!  I'm sure she (like myself) would not want our child's shock at the plot twist to be ruined.

I ruined that spoiler for my sister a few years ago. My response when she told me she didn't know that was, "Are you sure you're my sister?" I mean come on, you're brother and father are total nerds and our mother knows that too.

The thing that made it worse though, is that she is my older sister. You figure she would have found out about in that four year headstart that she had on me.

Speaking of the eliminated lightsaber construction scene of Luke in ROTJ, I was hoping for a similar scene in ROTS. Such a scene would show Vader building his signature red lightsaber and activating it, it would've been a good scene.

Well like I said, it should've been done in ROTS, with Vader and the red lightsaber.
