For now, all I need is just some fingerless gloves so I keep from cutting my hand on my Liberator lol. The increased grip is definitely a plus, but minimal protection for the top of my hands and knuckles.

I like those grappling gloves there Tango! Hmmm... now I need to find my old mma gloves as they are heavily padded on top...

Stay away from MMA gloves. They don't have enough padding and they don't cover the fingers which is what you need to protect the most. If you are on the cheep,  use street hockey gloves. They are light, well padded, and slip off easy in case of an emergency. And at 20 buck a pair, you can't go wrong. We go at it pretty hard too and allow strikes to the hand with those gloves.

Lot's of great information.
At the risk of being repetitious, I've found Lacrosse gloves to be the best compromise among cost, availability, flexibility and protection.
I've been using them for about a year in longsword practice with wooden wasters and they have not inhibited the work in any appreciable way.
That being said, yesterday afternoon we tried out some street hockey gloves and I think I'd prefer those for use with lightsabers.
They are a bit lighter, thinner and less bulky however the sabers blades are also lighter and more flexible than a wooden longsword waster,
so there's no significant impact on protective value.
