Well this is my first all metal curved saber. It is short, and only 1.375 OD and 1.125 ID. The one wide spot at the bottom required the speaker to be detachable from the battery pack. This saber was manually machined, except for the curve. The electronics need to be a half inch shorter to really fit right.

Compared to a shock:

Ok, can't resist the Dooku look, Thought about adding a claw.

Here is some bad video:

Compacted electronics with detachable speaker:

A detachable speaker also let's me make this saber:

Now that is truly impressive!!! Not only did you create a Dooku style but you got an interesting concept for the 2nd saber as well.  I don't think I have seen anything similar to this on the net.  I am definitely dropping a point on you!

Both of those sabers are absolutely beautiful.

Great job, you get points for sure.

Thanks for the points. I have been messing around with light sabers for about a year and a half. So it took awhile. Now hopefully a CNC machined curved one. Got the prototype, hard part is over.

Two questions, are there two kinds of curved sabers? The smaller "Dooku" style saber, emphasizing finesse and extraordinary control. And a "Darth Bane" style, larger emphasizing aggressive, powerful strokes with the speed of a curved saber. They seem to have different styles.

Also, Jedi also used curved sabers right? Dooku used one I assume when he was a Jedi.

Excellent builds and here are some answers for you.

There can certainly be two kinds of curved sabers as you've described. However one might venture to say that there are as many types of curved sabers are there people who would like to use such a saber. I'm sure based on the creativity you've shown that you could create a third and perhaps fourth type of curved saber.

And the curved style of hilt is generally used by a Makashi practitioner, though that is not a limitation stated in canon. That is just a fencing style hilt which is generally thought of as Makashi Form II. So yes, Jedi can use curved hilts as they don't show affiliation.

Again, very nice work on the hilts!

Nice curved saber. Might give the Ultra team an idea. You should share it with them. Like how the electronics/sound board would be installed.  Or the curved part could be threaded to unscrew off the main straight body, then the sound board would be put there. Then put the switch where the curved part kinda slants upwards, like where the joint is. Because I think the Ultra team has been having trouble getting a curved saber put together so this could help them. If you wouldn't mind giving away your idea anyway.

I don't know if the Ultra Saber team is working on a curved saber. To machine one (rather than bend the metal) is a challenge, but nothing is impossible. A machined curved saber would obviously be more expensive. But a detachable speaker does make it easier. If my design helps UltraSabers make a curved saber, that's great. I've met Emory and am pretty confident he would be fair about it. I laugh when I see hate posts against him or UltraSabers, my experiences have all been positive. If he was a greedy bastard, prices would be going up, instead, with the new board, prices are going down. That is right on! I would like to see limited edition, high-end sabers, curved, brass, etc. But there are more options and features than ever, so UltraSabers are getting better and better, with more options and prices to fit any budget. I just do what I do and everything usually works out in the end.

Thanks for the answers to my questions, you are right Master Vidnyl, there are a number of curved styles that could be made. I also very much prefer a curved saber, so I'm glad Jedi can use them too.

I'm new to this forum and the whole custom/diy lightsaber thing. Just came into some money and wanted to make an old dream come true: To own a good lightsaber.
To my annoyance nobody seems to sell the kind i would like at a reasonable price. That being one with a curved hilt. It was offcourse Dookus saber that got me into curved hilts but the kind i would like would probably more resemble the one the OP made.

There are several reasons for this. First being that I like the aesthetics. Second is that I have always liked the feel of a slightly curved handle on blades. Both knives and swords.
The third reason is that I'm a practitioner of historical fencing (HEMA or WMA), mostly bolognese fencing with a sidesword. The curved hilt allows for a slight pistol grip that I have found to work really well with the style in question. Especially as I don't think that most lightsabers are really balanced the same as a sidesword. The pistol grip could help counteract the balance issue.

So what I would like is something like the above hilt, without the claw and made by US. With the usual US trimmings. Perhaps a little fancier but not much.

Hi Marlock! Not very widely known, but I know at least one and I believe perhaps two ultra prototypes of a curved version of the crimson reaper HAVE surfaced. The guys haven't stated anything about a production run, so far as I am aware, but at least we know they've been working on the idea! Smiley

I saw the thread: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=15156.0
It's good that they are working on it. The model in question, unfortunately, isn't quite what I'm looking for though. The reaper isn't really one of my favourites. I don't really like the sharp angle of the bend and it's to much in the middle of the handle.
But it's still good that they are working on bent ones Smiley

Hmmm yeah Im happy that it's just a prototype because the Reaper models don't really appeal to me... perhaps if they made the curve more curvy and less reaper - esque. I do like the idea of an angled emitter on a curved saber though.

I'd be willing to bet it went into the Reaper because that's the first MHS saber with a section they could really do it too without making it outrageously long. The Arbiter only has two body sections, and most of the other sabers only have one, but when the Reaper came out it had three, so the curve could be fit in without making the saber ridiculously long. Still I share the desire to see the curve surface in another hilt, or perhaps as a stand alone MHS section we could purchase. That would be nice. Smiley

This is true, but maybe they could release a silver model instead? with black or gold anodizing in the machined pattern on the hilt? Im a big Darth Bane fan and would love to get one if they did that!

I dunno about silver... though the prototype was that color, I'm betting they just didn't want to anodize a prototype. I'd bet a black one is something we'll see though!
