I almost feel bad because nothing personally happened to me, but to the date every year I have to vent.

Today is the announcement of the player the the BBWAA have decided by a 75% vote get to be inducted to the HOF. If you played in the MLB for ten years you get on the ballot and as long as you get 5% of the vote you can stay on the ballot for 15 years. To vote you needed to be a member of the BBWAA for 10 straight years and then you have a HOF vote for life.

This year I thought 15 players were worthy of being elected to the HOF, if you are a big hall guy, there were reasonably 19 players you could vote for, except for the fact the ballot restricts you to only voting for 10.

How may got elected you may ask? 3.Three were elected on recieved 74.8%, he was two votes short.

This doesn't anger me because players weren't elected, I really don't care if a body I dont' care about presents a honor to a player I think deserves it. What anger's me is the rationale, or lack their of behind it. And the growing belief that all opinions are valid, even if they are ignorant, or malformed/misinfored. Opinions are that opinions but some things are facts and you don't get to pretend they are opinions just because that fits your beliefs.

Small vent, coz those I talk to regularly can attest to the fact that I wont shut up if I get started....

My ankle of late has decided to be more and more a pain, getting steadily worse again, and its been getting really swollen. It got so bad today I was hobbling around all day, had to start using a stool at front counter again coz standing was too painful, and had to strap up both my knee and ankle with strapping tape- my ankle brace alone wasn't cutting it, and the limping makes my knee sore and weak as well. and unfortunately my physio is booked out this week, so I have to wait until Monday. And of course, I'm maxing out my daily dosage of painkillers, on a regular occasion.  
So, I've had to make a doctor's appointment for tomorrow to get some stronger painkillers/ anti inflammatories again, and see if there's anything they can do to get an appointment with the specialist surgeon bumped up the waiting list, coz I still haven't heard back from that. It's now been 8 months since I last rolled it the extra work during December, my physio schedule being stuffed up coz of the public holidays/ being away/ different work roster, and my ankle just doing its usual hating me has all added up to this. I's so sick of it being one step forward, two steps back. For a while there it was getting really good again, I was starting to be able to do stuff... then my ankle dealt me a big F you.

On top of that, I'm so incredibly sick of my work place, of the useless management who can't do their jobs properly, of the constant negative attitudes and treatment management is giving us 'little people'. Of my managers "one rule for me, one rule for everyone else" approach. I'm not going to say anything more there else I wont stop. But its enough to say that that combined with my ankle has had me so stressed and depressed this week I've been so irritable and upset as a result.
the only positive I have is that its giving me even more incentive to get the hell out of that place, and my cousin is going to help me get my resume/ cover letter etc up to scratch coz she's got a lot of experience with that kind of thing and will see if her contacts know of any jobs available in the profession I trained for, even if its just work experience positions. Course, my stupid ankle doesn't help the job hunting any, a lot of junior positions tend to be more field work based, and I can't physically do that   that's when there are even junior positions available.

What the holy hell is wrong with the youth of America?

I stopped by Walmart on the way home last night to pick up some batteries, and on my way out I decided to light up a cigarette. Now, I do not smoke in my car (part of my plan to cut down and eventually quit), so I was standing by my car finishing my cigarette.

Along comes this 14-15 year old girl with two of her friends who asks me if she could bum a smoke. Seeing that she is so obviously underage, I politely decline, as providing cigarettes to a minor is illegal.

Her response (I kid you not): "C'mon man... I'll give you a <sexual favor> if you give me one."

I was completely floored by this, so she thought I was considering it.

"Yeah," she said, "you know you want it."

Either she was serious about it, or she figured that she would just take a cigarette and run.

So I grabbed my about-half-full pack out my jacket pocket, took out the remaining cigarettes, and held them up.

I then rolled them between my palms and crushed them, raining tobacco on the ground in between us.

"What the hell?" she exclaimed.

"You must be out of your damned mind," I told her. "One: you need to develop a better sense of self respect. And Two: Asking someone to break the law in exchange for an act that breaks the law even worse IS NOT A GOOD INCENTIVE! Now get the hell out of my face and go home."

I have been considering how to deal with an tough spot like that and for the opposite for kids getting bullied, and I think I found a decent answer...a small disposable air horn.



It is only a couple dollars, throw away, and brings immediate attention.

This would be a quick "so what did you do Mr Older Guy?, suggest sexual favors?" "Uh no, I blasted my air horn to get them away from me, too avoid trouble"

A kid getting bullied in school...an alarm gets attention quick...no punches thrown...it can not be ignored.

This saddens me, I had hoped that people in other countries drove better than people in the United States.

my state is reputed to have some of the worst drivers in Australia. people here don't know how to use indicators, don't know how to use roundabouts, don't know how to merge or change lanes, don't know how to do the speed limit, and half of them don't know how to drive without sitting right up your butt the whole time- that one in particular peeves me off! I come from the country, out in the country there's big open stretches of road and drivers usually tend to give each other space coz there's just no need to sit up each others butts. that and lets face it its a great deal safer. you can always tell when its a city person driving in the country, coz they are usually tailgating the person in front of them  common courtesy is also usually out of the window here 
I'd heard how bad our rep was, but never realised how bad it aqctually was until I went to another state late last year- people there seem more impatient coz they actually get off the line quicker and don't stuff around, but there traffic just seems to work. it flows!

one of my pet peeves? people that take absolutely FOREVER to get off the line and accelerate up to the speed limit and as a result hold up a huge line of traffic.... then fly straight past the speed limit and sit 10 or so over

Yeah...Florida is one of the worst states when it comes to drivers, though according to recent polls Louisianna is the worst state overall.

You just described how people drive in Mississippi perfectly, word for word.
