Same philosophy. You have seen the Full Metal Jacket rifle and gun scene, right? If not, youtube it. Check your sensitivities, though. I don't want you to go all Trigglypuff on us. No that you would, I just want you to be forewarned.
"This is my rifle. This is my gun. This is for fighting. This is for fun." I love horror movies. The scarier the better. Anyone can do a slasher flick nowadays, but it takes a real artiste to genuinely terrify the audience without resorting to cheap tactics.
I've discovered that the true essence of terror is derived from subtlety. Let the individuals' imaginations terrify themselves from only getting hints of what is lurking in the dark places.  Srsly? frell winter. frell cold.

I find that goes better with some hot fudge, too. I think it helps coat the stomach. |
