It seems we may have tapered off the interest...to be honest the process of spending/searching for a big list is a chore at worst lol...so maybe a short shopping trip...somewhere fun...

Ok how about here with a three item budget...any three items available from this online site...if it is listed with a price then you can have it regardless of availability...yours to have...deal with the post apoc threats...

O-Katana blade 36" overall 49"
Zombie Killer

Hunting spear made for throwing and bringing down large game, such as lions and leopards, which should very easily work well with any sort of wild game i may run acrosss, and if absolutely necessary could be used to dispatch a Zombie, but i wouldn't want to contaminate and risk ruining my source of obtaining food.

And a hunting knife to skin and field dress my kills, could be used to defend myself if needed, again last resort so i dont need to worry about contaminating my food

Good choices  Smiley

This was a fun thread while it lasted...these niche subjects ebb and flow.

Dang, computer froze up as i was posting this and had to refind everything i had, here goes

I would grab 2 of these and packing my hear into them as i went along, able to hold water bladders in them as well,

water bladders

2 of these, larger and able to carry more gear

2 butt packs, able to carry more gear on my person at a time

keep the sun off my head

or if it gets cold out

under layer shirt, 2 packed and put 1 on.

under layer pants, 2 packed and 1 on

top layer shirt, 2 packed, 1 on

tac belt

outer pants, 2 packed, 1 on

a pair of shorts just in case it gets too hot

2 pairs because they will probably be seeing some serious action

steel toed

2 of these

Weaponry

2 22" machetes for most zombie slaying action

at least 4 of these collapsible 32" batons to crush zombie skulls, want to have a few extras since they will be tanking abuse

2 combat knives in case it gets up close and personal

2 survival knives, mostly for small game and utility, not getting contaminated by zombies

at least 2 utility knives, again not to be used against zombies, also comes with fire starter

2 of these, comes with sharpening stone, and good for getting and hunting

Gear

2 Collapsible hand saws

binoculars

as many of these magnesium fire starters as i could find

a few canteens

at least 4 collapsible 5 gallon water containers

2 of these filtered water bottles

and as many of these water purification tablets/drops/filters as i can

a wristband compass

a good hammock for staying high in the trees, keeps out insects as well

medkits are a must

hands free flashlight

hand carry flashlight, multiple colors, red-helps keep night vision, blue-following blood trail, green, and normal white

collapsible mess kit

at least 3 or 4 tarps, never know when you will need one

as much as i hate the idea of these, the practicality of a snuggie would be nice. Can wear to keep warm while moving or use while sleeping, at least 2 or 3

at least 4 rolls of duct tape are a must

at least 4 rolls of 1000 ft paracord

and you never know when a little more rope may come in handy

And if i packed everything right those bags/shopping cart wouldnt be full, but thats what i would have

I great list...but dear lord your cart would be seriously full!

But that is fine...most likely there would be a horse, motorcycle, car/truck, friends, etc. to help with load.

That said, all quality choices.

...but what?

Lol

Yes I do like the post apoc but not for the reasons most do I am thinking.

I like to reduce the human equation in a wide stroke...creating a new frontier wih remains of the days past.

Aside from that it comes down to one word...mutants Wink

But I do like the realistic settings also, hense the shopping game,

just "but" Tongue

I like the new frontier with remains of the days past idea, though I like it more in terms of firefly style thing. I can mostly deal with aliens (unless they are big scary monster type things, I don't do big scary monster aliens, unless they are the covenant) but I don't do zombies or mutants *shudders* dunno what it is but I just cant deal with them. hate hate hate zombies! if my partner jared plays zombie games, i leave the room or make him play on the computer screen with it turned away from me and with head phones on. my friends decided to force me to watch dawn of the dead back in high school, like if I tried to run away theyd hold me down type force, omg i had nightmares for ages!!!! they also weren't in my popular books for a short while. then they tried to force me to watch shawn of the dead- but I managed to escape part way through Tongue

back in highschool some friends including jared did a role play scenario with d&d style rules of zombie apoc in our local city/ town and enjoyed it (I stayed well clear, yuk zombies!). it still comes up in conversations from time to time, primarily coz one of our friends made a stupid choice of weapon and got a bad roll and got decapitated in a spectacular fashion right at the start. funny how silly little things like that stay with you.
I rekon jared would like this game of yours

Then have him join the forum and play along!

 Grin

Alrighty then...a new process...transportation.

The setting is typical post apoc...limited people, no public utilities, resources are just what you can find or modify...no zombies or aliens.

How would you get around?

Do you walk, ride a bike, use a motorcycle, drive a truck, ride a horse, etc.?

Each has issues...some need fuel, others need food...there would be needed replacement parts, medicines...etc.

So no price limit but rather a limit of what you could manage alone.  Meaning you do not have 15 vehicles, you could not operate an aircraft requiring a crew of 6, a gang of 7 horses would be a major burden on the road with food/water/etc.

What personal transport would you choose?

Well, the best option for a group would be the convoy route.

- 4 fuel tankers (full - 2 diesel, 2 gasoline) - uparmored, reinforced frame, reinforced hitching
- 1 box truck for motorcycle storage.
- 1 18-wheeler with modified box trailer used for food and supply storage, mobile kitchen, etc - uparmored, reinforced frame, reinforced hitching
- 4 SUVs (hybrid) - uparmored for protection and equipped with a reinforced frame, weapon mounts, and a front plow for getting through obstacles
- 2 pickup trucks (hybrid) - uparmored for protection and equipped with weapon mounts in the bed.
- 6 cars (hybrid) - uparmored, reinforced frame, weapon mounts on passenger side
- 6 offroad motorcycles - no modifications

On the personal side of things, I guess the best option would be on foot. You're more maneuverable on foot, less likely to draw attention, and it's easy to hide if need be. Of course, the faster you find a group to hook up with, the better.

If available I would have a camel...tough as nails.

If not then a horse.  I am familiar with the husbandry issues and tack related maintenance.

I would personally choose a horse, able to get a decent speed, would also work well to alert me of anyone or anything else that i might have missed, such as a large predator. Familiar enough with a horse to take care of it. Plus it would give the added benefit of being a food source if you get desperate enough
