Ok...standard Walking Dead setting...zombies and humans.

What edged hand weapon...just one...would you want in this setting.

It needs to exist, so no magic swords or other such...no Mithril, no adamantium steel-vibranium alloy, etc.

Just mundane real world materials and available today.

But price is not an option, so it can be any one edged weapon.

To be clear...not an assault rifle with over and under grenade launchers...with a bayonet attached...not an armored tank with mounted spikes.

Just a single hand weapon that is an edged weapon...knife, sword, spear, sharpened mace, etc.

What one single real world edged hand weapon would want to face the world of the Walking Dead?

Hickory handled axe/hammer combo (axe blade on one side, flat hammer surface on the other) with a metal spike on the end of the handle.

All purpose zombie killer. It slices, crushes, and impales, and it's man portable!

The one that makes the most sense on the one hand is a proper boar spear...keep them zombies at distance, but depending on the setting the length could present a bit of squirreliness...good as a mundane walking staff...lever...hmmm a good choice for sure...

But I am thinking in my zombie slaying heart that a decent mid range blade with at least four hands length offers balance, good weight to effort ratio, and little chance of sticking as it passes through bone and sinew...

So the modern zombie hacking dadao is for me  Smiley

If my first choice was not available then the old stand by that no survivalist should be without...and to be honest should be my first pick due to the overall potential value...

A riot spear and a good wakazashi for backup! Reach and speed, perfect combo. When the spear fails, go for the short sword!

my shopping list:

40 lb. re-curve bow
http://www.google.com/shopping/product/11119199010561062356?q=40+lb+recurve+bow&safe=active&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=fflb&biw=1536&bih=738&dpr=1.25&ei=snkPU7mQJoONygGnvID4CQ&ved=0CLsBEKYrMAU

Knife-bladed arrows... couldn't find them, but the heads have 2 blades, and are about 2-3" long
as well as some bodkin arrows
and this-here Katana to finish it off.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cold-Steel-Emperor-Series-Katana-Sword/19336484#Specifications

reasoning:
I'm a lower-marksman meaning I can hit within the red (or better) at typical 30-40' My preferred weight is between 30-40 lbs. and a bow can always be adjusted.
The knife-bladed arrows are convenient in tight situations since they double as a slicing weapon.
bodkin arrows are the staple of any bow-toting warrior
and the Katana is a necessary back-up... they are light for swift carry, and one of the sharpest-know blades.

Knife bladed arrowheads?

You could not find them because they don't exist?  I looked and could not find them either.  I suspect far too heavy and awkward to be viable except in a video game  Sad

Broadheads would do what you are looking for I suspect  Cheesy

These were what I was looking for... about 2" is what I'd picture as possible.
I'd also want Hawk-eye's quiver (if I could find it)
