Heavy Grade detracts to brightness, UltraEdge adds to it. Does this mean UltraEdge Heavy Grade is Heavy Grade with normal brightness? And also do UltraEdge models drain batteries extremely quickly?

The heavy grades only lose a small amount of brightness and even then will be very bright, They also dont light through the entire thickness of the blade (same with mid grade) and leave a small amount of the blade silver. The ultraedge heavy grades reflect the light differently up the blade causing it to be full and not have that spot up the bade unlit. I think it depends on the color of the LED on what blade you should get. Red= Mid or heavy grades. Guardian Blue= ultraedge or ultraedge heavygrade. And green can go either way , and no the ultraedge will not drain your batteries faster because they just transter the light differently. They dont require power.

Honestly I have an Ultraedge Heavy Grade and from what I've seen it seems to be just as bright as my midgrade Ultraedge, but with the benefit of having a heavy duty dueling blade.

The Heavy Grade may detract from brightness, but I find mine to be plenty bright.

the answer is withing the question.   The heavy "Dueling"  blades  are for just that, Full Force strikes and blocks.  They are thicker and therefore more durable.  Like any style of sword play( or any other weapons for that matter) there are always heavy and lighter versions.  The light versions are usually to train and proper technique/kata because they are more easily manipulated and the Heavier versions are used for strength and Impact training.  there is my "professional" answer.  The Simple answers is:  YOU CAN BEAT ON EACH OTHER HARDER WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT THE BLADE BREAKING!!!

On the brightness question, I'll add my two cents. The Ultra Edge will make the color brighter, but it also sort of lightens it a little. It won't make a Guardian Blue into an Arctic or anything extreme like that, but it will seem a little lighter. It will also look, as everyone else has said, much fuller and even. In that regard, it will give you a blade much like what you see in the Prequels, or even ROTJ. The Mid Grade or Heavy Grade Blades on the other hand, give you a little more true color, but are less even and more 'shimmery' giving you a look something like the lightsabers in ANH and ESB before the Special Edition 'improvements' on Special Effects. It's really all a matter of preference. Smiley

Also, I gotta side with Duff on Durability. I always recommend buying a Heavy Grade no matter if you go Ultra Edge or not, just because it can survive most anything short of a nuclear holocaust.  Grin Even if you don't intend to duel heavily, everyone gets carried away sometimes, friends might not have as much restraint as you, and of course, occasionally one hits a really really hard object by accident, and in those instances it is just awesome to have that extra strength in the blade to handle whatever comes your way.
