Its strange. at first my favorite blade color was blue. when I was young how could it not be? then as I became a fan of the sith it became red. Now after looking into all the blade of great warriors I have arrived on yellow or purple as blade of choice. I arrived at these choices for a few reasons. 1) Ganner rhysode. His blade was a sulphuric yellow and his epic last stand worthy of any great force user was fought with Anikins purple blade. 2) Mace Windu. while I wasnt a huge fan in the movies his back story and saber skills are kick ass. the face that he was a jedi that developed a form of saber combat specifically to channel his anger is cool as hell. 3) avoiding pure color choices that seem to define ideologies, Purple and yellow seem to be choices of both sith and jedi. Blue is also one of these but the jedi claimed it in later years. it really bugs me that great sith like exar kun and Ulic quel-droma used blue blades but the color is not considered sith. Its time to bring it back! for to long the sith has wallowed in the monotony of red.

Ah, yes, the PLE or Purple Lightsaber Effect. To wit: if any force user, Jedi or not, gets his or her mitts on a Purple Lightsaber, they become, effectively, invincible. The list of Purple bearing BMF's includes:
Mace Windu, Anakin Solo, Mara Jade (double points for Mara: the seed-crystal for her synthetic crystal came from the shattered remains of Mace Windu's Hurrikaine crystal), Ganner Rysode again, and at one point Revan himself.

I totally agree with the abolition of the Red-only-Sith way of life. Seriously, we all know why Sith really use red blades. It's not because the red crystal is über-powerful or whatever, it's only because in the common mind red means danger, red means "Fear me or I'll slice you and play Hanoi Towers with your remains.". But, keep one thing in mind : Sith are also great manipulators, puppeteers of the Galaxy, acting in the shadows and so on. So why they need to be spotted the second they release their red blade ? "Oh no ! Master Bok'thran, you were a Sith all this time ? How haven't I noticed it sooner ?! Damn you red-bladed saber wielders !" Just imagine how treacherous could be a Sith with a green or blue blade ! "Oh, it's okay ! This jedi master all black clothed with a ferocious grin is just a friend who had a bad moment. He's got green blade, why should I be cautious ?" *Swoosh-swoosh-swoosh* "I can't believe it... It works every time..." Maybe is it the reason that my friend wish a green-bladed SS Raven

Yellow and purple are indeed badass colors. Likely because they're rare for Jedi (at least before Luke's order, then purple seems to be the norm lol) and also because, as you noted, they can be wielded by either Jedi or Sith.
Sith with blue lightsabers are indeed cool for some reason, Vader was menacing in Episode III wielding his blue Jedi saber as he did Palpatine's bidding. Exar Kun was awesome too, with his blue saber staff. I think the cold blue color just makes it more sinister.

Red sabers are generated from a synthetic crystal, which I think sith made because it was so hard for them to get their hands on natural crystals. Not 100% on this ill google it

Yellow and purple are indeed badass colors. Likely because they're rare for Jedi (at least before Luke's order, then purple seems to be the norm lol) and also because, as you noted, they can be wielded by either Jedi or Sith Part of the reason (at least, in-universe) is that during Obi-Wan and Anakin's time, most of the Jedi got their Adega crystals from Ilum, where no matter the grade of the crystal (Danite, Kethracite, Mephite, or Pontite) they were either blue or green due to mineral inclusion. (Mace Windu's crystal was a Hurrikane crystal, not an Adega crystal.) During Luke's time, Jedi either grew their own synthetic crystals which they could use the Force to manipulate during the growth to be whatever color they wanted, or they got their Adega crystals from Ossus (in the Adegan system), Ruusan (Kyle Katarn's crystal came from Ruusan), all of which produced Adega crystals with a wider color range, or experimented with other sources. Jacen Solo used at first a Corusca gem then later a Vong Lambent crystal in his lightsaber. Red sabers are generated from a synthetic crystal, which I think sith made because it was so hard for them to get their hands on natural crystals. Not 100% on this ill google it Usually, especially by the time of Vader and Palpatine, but according to revised canon the early Sith used crystals from the eggs of silicon-based insectoids called Kinrath, which produced a red, bloody-hued beam. (Despite what Wookieepedia says, Kinrath are not naitive to Dantooine, but were brought there accidentally on starships, much like gizka.)

Let's just go ahead and throw orange in there as well. Obviously my favorite of the jedi/sith colors.

I was lead to believe that sith carried red because red was the color of anger, passion, dominance, and fear. All the ideals of the sith could be wrapped up and embodied in a single crystal that was, ironicly enough, synthesised and basicly mass produced, as well as short lived and unstable.
A better representation I couldn't have made myself.

Personally, my favorites are tied: green (CONSULAR Green that is, I TELL you son!) and Sunrider's Destiny.
Thanks to the KotOR games (on the computer) Fire Orange and Violet Amethyst are tied in second place.
RGB is next due to versatility.
The only ones I never seem to have any personal use for (and this is a PERSONAL OPINION, NOT TO BE TAKEN AS A STATEMENT OF FACT) are the blues, silver, and red.
Heck, even as a Sith, I'd use RGB because nothing says "Look out, he's goin' Dark Lord" like having your saber suddenly shift from a reassuring Jedi color to red just before you decapitate whoever it was that annoyed you to that point. The cool part is there is canon (Expanded Universe canon, but still canon) for RGB sabers: the Rainbow Gems from Galinore. Tenel Ka had one, as did Stacy (aka Pink Five)... her lightsaber, given to her by Yoda, could change colors. She chose pink as her standard color, of course. (Appearances: Pink Five, Pink Five Strikes Back, and The Return of Pink Five, a cameo in Sith Apprentice, and appeared in Timothy Zahn's novel Allegiance, making her one of the few fanon elements to become C-level canon.)

My favorite is also green, with red just behind it. I think I've liked green ever since I saw ROTJ for the first time and saw Luke kicking ass with his new green saber lol

I personally don't think the colors of sabers are "Sith or Jedi". If I'm a Sith and I want a blue or green saber then I'm putting a crystal of that color in my hilt. If I'm a Jedi that wishes to have the color red for maybe a symbol of unity or something to that effect than thats what I'm getting.
I heard from my super starwars buff friend that the Sith have red sabers not necessarily because of the artificial crystal (which could be any color) It's because of something like when the Jedi(sometime before the Old Republic) thought the Sith were extinct the Jedi and Sith that knew about certain "crystal" planets died during their war at that time. So one of the planets were forgotten by the Jedi but the Sith that managed to survive knew of this planet which created red crystals. So it's kind of they're little secret or something. I'm not sure how accurate this is. He showed it to me a while ago and he knows a lot of starwars stuff that many don't. It's kind of a big hobby for him.
Also I read in a a book called Star Wars Jedi vs Sith The Essential Guide to the Force that the red crystals are a bit more powerful than the others but are unstable which Sith are drawn towards and Jedi frown upon. So these are the reasons I know why the Sith choose red as their natural and artificial crystal color. So no color is necessarily a Sith color or Jedi color. They're just colors.

From the many novels & guides I've read, this seems to be accurate.

I am partial to Guardian Blue. At first it was because it is one of my favorite colors, but then I did the whole Uber geek thing and compared my personality and education/training with either Jedi Guardian, Consular or Sentinel. It ends up Jedi Guardian- Jedi Peacekeeper-Blue. (DORK) I also have a SRD but now I am torn between VA or Red for my next one.
