At some point I want to make a saber staff out of two Manticores.  What I am wondering is how long would you recommend the blades to be?  Is it trouble if the staff is much taller than me (6'1") or is there a rule of thumb as to when a staff could become too unwieldy?

The Manticores are 11", the coupler 1 3/4" so 24" blades would be just a bit shorter than me and 32" blades would be over 7'.

My Archon Staff has 32" blades and is just fine.  Don't forget that the emitter gobbles some of the blade length.  Usually 2.5 to 3.5 inches.

My Liberator staff has 36" blades, too damn long. 32" would be a bit too long too, because you'll still have to spin it higher then the middle of your body.

and I am 6'6"

So, don't make a mistake, and bother with a staff that is longer than you))

Good point.  I forgot all about that.

I've tried the Manticore with a Shock and Bellicose - 36" blades in all cases. Like Slua says, too long.

I'm 6', and the blades alone would be as tall as me. Add in an extra 20" or so for the hilts, allowing for the emitter/blade overlap... It's nearly 8 feet long. Way too long.

My new staff has 30 inch blades. With a stunt hilt and internal coupler, I've knocked something like 14 or 15 inches off the length of the staff. It's about 6 foot 4 inches long, and feels great to spin and spar with. As I've got hanging lights indoors, though, it's still a bit long to go all out in my living room, though...  Smiley

Thanks for the info.  How much extra was it for US to cut the blades down to 30", or did you do it yourself?

No extra cost - or at least, they didn't ask for any in my case.
