Consular Crystal Chamber - UPDATE

heres what i did just today, i know the black finish on the chamber is wrong, so if someone can tell me the exact coat of paint on the consular that would be very helpful, but i actually kinda like it the way it is anyway, the crystal is inside, just a green crystal, i have other colors but i thought id keep it green, looks good to me anyway, again it does extend the hilt a bit but this chamber is only going to be used for display purposes only, im going to continue working on it so i might come up with something better, anyway here it is

im attempting a crystal chamber for the consular using nothing but MHS parts, i have everything ordered, and hopefully it will get here quickly, i will update this post as soon as i get the parts and i finish.

Ouch.....Were they the $99 or the $149 FX sabers. FYI: I've seen stores in my area that had these prices.

LOL no way will i cut into it, i am however going to make it a tad bit longer to put the chamber in but its only going to be a show piece anyway, when i want to have the saber out ill take off the crystal chamber and put it back on when im done

just got in a blade plug that i had made for my consular, industrialaction from fx-sabers made it up for me, consists of a blue crystal wrapped in copper wire inside a small 2 inch tube with diffuser stuffed behind it, not exactly a crystal chamber but it will do for now until i get the parts in that i need to build the chamber.

and here it is in my saber lit up, its brighter then this but i put it right up to the camera to get a clear shot of the crystal

I love crystal chambers and ever since I saw my first saber with one in it I wanted to buy it on the spot... D*** money!

I must disagree, Wraith. There are TWO Jokers. One is Heath Ledger. The other.... Mark Hamill. He did a GREAT Joker voiceover.

Now, on crystal chambers: I always thought it would be really sweet to have one of the kind that's actually concealed, but you can take the hilt halfway apart for display and it's visible. It looks great, it takes the hilt to another level of realism, and when you tell somebody you can put that together and fight with it.... it takes a minute before they'll believe you, and to put their eyes back in their head.

I've only just ordered my first saber, so perhaps I am getting a little ahead of myself, but I can see how a crystal chamber done right could look very cool. In terms of the crystal itself, I thought that something freeform faceted from Swarovski would look nice. A quick google later and I found a couple of examples in various colors at the following links:

Next I was thinking through sizing, mounting, and lighting. The first option above is smaller (12x11mm) than the second (up to 27x15mm). Either shape is nice, but I think I like the galactic better. I'd lean that way, but I'm not sure how much room there is to work with.

Also there is a hole drilled through each, which might be a good thing in terms of mounting (and perhaps lighting it). The thing is, the hole for the smaller crystal goes through the longer axis of the crystal, which I think would look better. The hole through the larger crystal runs through the shorter axis, which could be problematic.
