All media, all the time, all the screams, etc.  Keeping in line with the standards of the forum of course so what the subject matter, the pics, and the references to keep it family and work safe as possible...it is assumed anyone visiting a horror thread will be prepared in some measure.

Keep references to NSFW/F gore or sexuality as a link with EXPLICIT AND CLEAR WARNINGS...no need to confuse the kids, scare grandma, or make the dog piddle.

Favorite horror artist, piece, book, movie, TV show, character, monster, theme, manga, anime, comic book, etc.

This could get interesting as there are many chambers beneath the Horror house, each with a different flavor and tempo.

So a quick horror profile?

Favorite Horror artist?

Favorite Horror writer?

Favorite Horror book?

Favorite Horror comic/manga?

Favorite Horror anime?

Favorite Horror movie?

Favorite Horror short story?

Favorite Horror character?

Favorite Horror TV show?

Favorite Horror monster?

Favorite Horror pic/image?

Favorite Horror costume?

And as a final shot...if you could be any character within a horror story, on the horror side of the house, which would it be?

Favorite Horror artist?  Tough one as I am a big fan of horror art...but for his long term effects on my person and style, Bernie Wrightson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Wrightson  and a current favorite for his unique approach, Mike Mignola http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Mignola

Favorite Horror writer? Lovecraft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovecraft

Favorite Horror book? At the Mountains of Madness http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_the_Mountains_of_Madness

Favorite Horror comic/manga?  Hellboy/BPRD  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellboy

Favorite Horror anime?  hmmm need to think on that one...

Favorite Horror movie?  Tough one, so many...hmmm Alien http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_%28film%29

Favorite Horror short story?  Pickman's Model  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickman%27s_Model

Favorite Horror character?  Hmmm again so many, Hellboy

Favorite Horror TV show?  Don't really have a favorite, not too many true horror TV shows, but I am enjoying the current run of American Horror Story http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Horror_Story:_Coven

Favorite Horror monster?  Xenomorph  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_%28creature_in_Alien_franchise%29

Favorite Horror pic/image?  So so so many...I can not pick one, but will follow up with many on the thread

Favorite Horror costume?  Again, this is the thing that really makes or breaks a movie horror character right?  So many to choose from...the early Creature from the Black Lagoon was an insane bit of engineering and talent, the first runs of all teh Universal monsters were masterful and eternal, I can't pick one

And as a final shot...if you could be any character within a horror story, on the horror side of the house, which would it be?

Oh fairly easy...Abe Sapien http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abe_Sapien

Horror in pen and paper RPG (with real people face to face) I always found the Mind Flayers/Illithids to be most intriguing.

They had psionics before everyone in the game had them, they were sith before it was common, they used magic, lived a long time, and ate human brains on toast points...what is not to love?

What's even scarier is the alhoon:

"Alhoon liches, also known as simply alhoons or illithiliches, are magic-using outcasts from mind flayer societies who have defied the ruling elder-brains, to achieve lichdom.

Alhoons combine powerful wizardry and sorcery with their innate skill at psionics to become a new threat to the established order of the Underdark and beyond. Their skin possesses none of the wet, smooth, slimy texture of living illithids, instead appearing dry, wrinkled, and cracked due to the powerful magic resistance that has prevented a perfect conversion to lichdom.

Alhoons are ignored, feared, and hated by mortal illithids due to their rejection of the illithid circle of life, culminating with the physical and psychic merging with an Elder Brain."

So basically, you have an undead naturally powerful psionic evil being that is now also a powerful magic user and has essentially said SCREW YOU to their own society.

These things, in-game, are NASTY. They make regular illithids look like cuddly puppies in comparison.

How about this...what Horror movie do you wish had a modern remake or reboot?  And by this I mean a quality application and not a syfy channel shark-version of the same.

Found a site that was looking at real world horror that deserved its own movie...

 Doggy Suicides At Overtoun Bridge
The Story: The Overtoun Bridge in Dumbarton, Scotland, has been described as picturesque, overlooking a rolling valley, rich with vibrant forests. But it's a place that carries a dark legacy of doggy suicide. Over the past fifty years, fifty dogs have leapt--seemingly without warning--over the bridge's edge, many falling fifty feet to their deaths. Most of these suicidal leaps have happened from the same section of the bridge, on the right-hand side between its two final parapets. Even stranger, all of the dogs who have died this way have been long-nosed breeds like Labradors, collies, and retrievers. Some say the bridge is haunted, and insist it's this creepy catalyst that also spurred a local man to hurl his infant son--who he believed to be the anti-Christ--off its side in 1994. After all, Overtoun is Celtic for "the thin place," an area where this world and the next are said to be close.

The Pitch: This is one of those stories so strange it can't help but draw your attention. While this series of doggy suicides is a modern phenomenon in Dumbarton, I can see this story suited to a more Gothic setting of high collars and stiff upper lips. Think something in the vein of the wildly popular Woman in Black, wherein an outsider comes into a small town that is experiencing a bizarre phenomenon. At first this newcomer is cynical about the local lore, but upon seeing the strange events happen before his very eyes is forced to reconsider. Above you can see animal behaviorist Dr. David Sands demystifying the cause of these seeming suicides, but I'd prefer to see this play as the start to a cryptic ghost story.

Speaking of Horror, has anyone watched an anime movie called Strait Jacket? It's about a future where magic is industrialized and has seriously murderous side effects when misused. When said magic items are misused they mutate people into hideous monstrosities that devour everything in their path. To combat them, a special task force is sent in to dispose of them, called Strait Jackets. The creature designs in the series are insane! This is one seriously disturbing movie, but it is just so awesome! The dub has Steve Blum voicing the main character. I recommend checking it out. I think it's still on Netflix, but if not just find an anime streaming website.

First time I saw this was on SciFi channel, before it was call SyFy, when they still had AniMondays.

I just want a proper movie, with a real budget, made based on the writings of H.P. Lovecraft... I don't know why no one seems willing or able to do such a thing.

The handlers of the Lovecraft estate are the ones that are resistant.  So many mediocre attempts have been made they are gun shy.

At The Mountains Of Madness was in the works but is out of the works currently...one can hope that life long fan, Guillermo del Toro, will take the reigns and run with it!
