So after I switched my LED from AS to CG I decided I wanted more or less a darker hilt.  So I searched far and wide and ripped off Ultrasabers for a paint scheme.

For the first time I've painted something metal I am not terribly displeased but it didn't come out as clean as I hoped for I plan on doing some touch ups later but there was some drippage and missed areas as well as jagged edges.

I used Rustoleum Flat Black, Rustoleum Clear Coat, Elmer's school glue, 400 grit sand paper, painters tape, paper towels, gloves an outdoor area and a lot of frustration.

The idea was to get a Dark LE look with the silver accents

1. Sanded all surface area except the thin grooves

2. Applied Elmer's glue to the small grooves

3. Hit with 4 coats of flat black 2x Rustoleum  within 48 hours

4. Cut (attempted) to cut out grooves with Elmer's glue

5. 2 layers of clear coat GLOSSY

Kind of finished ?

The sheen is nice the sparkle from the flat black with the glossy clear coat is very metallic looking.

Problem is I missed a few spots ... And the lines I cut were terrible and jagged...

I'm omitted the 2 other layers of paint that I sanded off before counting the other layers due to poor dripping / drying / sanding

I might sand this all down again in the future and go camo colors.

Let's just call the missing paint - "weathering" yeah that's it ... It's weathered (I might actually sand down each edge and do a clear coat to make it look like real weathering)

Here it is in it's box getting its final coat dry and when it was all black ...

I'll get a shot with the Consular Green tonight...

Next time I'll just buy a dominix haha

And black

For a better, more crisp look when painting, I suggest using painters tape to mask off sections that you don't want painted.

I did use painters tape : I replaced the tape on top and bottom after each dry cycle to fill gaps.

I couldn't get the painters tape thin enough to get into the crease

I suppose I will re attempt this method again trying it with the painters tape I'll just use an exacto to cut cleaner lines of tape

Not cotton - lint free cloth to stuff in emitter so no paint would get to MLS unit - also used some cut filters to block it off

Definitely use an exacto-knife. If you can, take some small measurements of the grooves so you can go ahead and cut the strips to the width you need them.

Affirmative I'll play with it until I come up with a design this was more or less a learn as you go practice session ... I'm thinking of going with a jungle kassyhk theme with jungle camo paint scheme
