The only sober Hawk Bat

« on: April 21, 2014, 06:31:16 PM »

I am wanting to work on a project with my friend, where we build our own sabers.
the only problem there is: I'm not an electrician, and don't know how to wire a battery pack to an LED system. Yes, I can work with wires, but do I need resistors, and other stuff.

I just dont want to buy the stuff and wind up with nothing that works... any basic guides would be helpful.

and if anybody is wondering... yes, I will be buying all but the PVC from US (unless US sells PVC)

Master Bluespike has some very good tutorials on Youtube. Search 'Bluespike's Road to Black Belt Overlord Project' for just one example.
He uses bluespike1975 on youtube. Wink

Here is a direct link.  The channel is Bluespike1974.  Thanks for the reference scraver.

Items needed:

1.  LED module
2.  Battery pack
3.  Resistors will depend upon the type of LED used and amount of batteries used.
4.  Latching switch.

Circuit is very basic for a stunt build.  Positive side of the battery pack to positive side of LED.  Negative side of battery pack to negative side of LED.  Latching switch is needed to break the circuit thereby turning it off.  Resistor is present to control the flow of the current over the circuit.  Most LED's run at 1 Ampere.  It is the amount of voltage needed to power them that changes.

PVC will require a threaded furniture insert to that you don't strip the PVC when using a screw to hold your blade in place.

Thank you Master Bluespike. Both of you actually.
I'm wanting to build a couple of stunts at first, but ma thinking of building one with sound eventually, the force tells me that is a whole new dimension though, so I will start basic.

I'm wanting to use the 4 AAA pack and a set of quick-disconnect systems... either that or the A-Silver. What resistors would I need for that? And what is the thread furniture insert? I do plan on using ultra blades by the way.

For Adegan Silver, you'll need a 2.7 ohm resistor.

Here is a great website for calculating LED resistor values.

Thanks so much! This is really helpful. I now have a group of people wanting to work on sabers.
