There is no Light Side, or Dark Side of the force.

I'm sure everyone here has heard of the Nodachi. The Japanese take on a greatsword. Anybody taken this brutal apporach to a lightsaber yet? I'm thinking maybe a... 52" blade and a nice, long 23" hilt.

You could probably use MHS parts and yari extensions to get a hilt that long, but you may have to make the blade yourself.  I don't know that US would make a blade more than their 40" one they offer.  That would be impressive though.

I don't think you'll be able to find a 52" blade. 40" is the most I've seen, US or otherwise. But the Yari extension would work perfectly for your hilt. Slap that onto your favorite saber, stick a massive blade in it, and you're set

I used a yari with my DSI & a 32in blade for my take on a naginata, but a massive Lightsaber nodachi would be awesome! Most from tip to pommel are about 80in in length. A 50-53in blade would work well, but the yari might not be ideal for this setup. You'd need a shorter extension like the Dark Arbiter/Arbiter grip piece. If I had a 40in blade I could make myself a great sword. I would use my BR DSI, dark arbiter grip, and 40in blade with a bullet tip.

You can get PC tubing from hardware stores and online in 90"pieces.

I feel that the grip and pommel from the Omen would be GREAT for the Nodachi-saber

If you hunt online, I am sure you can find polycarbonate tubing in longer lengths. I am not sure of where to look but  it has to be made somewhere.

Once you get that, all you need is a tip that you can get from US and a roll of cellophane (clear wrapping paper) which is sold at every craft store. It will be a pain getting the cellophane in a blade that long but I am sure it can be done.

To get a longer hilt, ask US if you purchase the grenade grip from the Arbiter. They do not have it in the store but if you email and ask, they will tell you what to do to order it. They're very accommodating.

I would do my best to find transluscent PC tubing. That much blade film... -Shudders like having experienced a nightmare.- You would have to roll it out, and roll it up lengthwise maybe five times...

Don't know how big a city you live in but there may be a plastic shop around that could cut you a piece of PC in the length that you require.  I stopped into a local place the other day to pick up something else and they had all kinds of samples of the stock that they carry available for you to look at.  Probably find something similar to what saber blades are made of, unless they use some kind of proprietary material manufactured specially for this purpose.

Just a thought.

That's a good idea. I'll have to check.

Master Artorius (MAV) made a big freakin saber a while back, I believe it was like 14 or 15" long with a 40" blade.  We referred to that as a light-nodachi.

Apart from that the only person who springs to mind is Jammo, who is famous for his unorthodox sized sabers.

Ultra saber wise, I recommend the bane hilt, I know someone trained in the use of the nodachi and he said it would work great, but let me know if you figure out how to get a 52" blade for it so we can set up for hin

Did it. 7 ft lightsaber (I attend conventions that have a prop length 7 ft max rule)
6 ft polycarbonate tube 1" OD, 7/8" ID
7 ft crack resistant polyethylene tubing 3/4" ID 7/8" OD (freeze it, lubricate the poly tube with mineral oil before inserting, cut off excess after leaving room for blade tip, 6 ft will not work because of lack of a grip)
thin wall blade tip from Ultrasabers

This is what it looks like without blade film or cellophane. (If you're wondering why I didn't use any blade film it's because I don't know where to buy it in 72" lengths and don't really feel like paying for it + shipping, I didn't feel like rolling cellophane either but it's possible with a 6 ft 1/2" ID garden stake)
