I was dueling last night (got more videos) and now I have to pull the battery pack out, take a battery out, and put it back in. Then it will do the boot sound. I'll put the pommel back on, but when I turn it back on, it shuts off after a few seconds and won't turn back on again. Any ideas?

Are these fully charged batteries? It sounds kind of like the behavior I've seen when the batter levels are low.

Should be. I had them on the charger the whole night that I got it. And it's been used only a couple of times since. I'll put them on the charger and see how that goes. I don't really want to break it apart to try and fix it if I don't have to.

After thinking about it, I was changing the sound and dueled for an hour or so last night too. How long do the buckpuck batteries last with a regular blade but with sound?

Not supposed to leave the batts in all night. o_o Take them off the charger right when the lights turn green. The batts possibly could've fried from that. Just an idea though. I take mine off the charger right when they're done charging.

^^^This is incorrect. You're actually supposed to leave them in the charger. The charger is a trickle charger and when the batts are left in the charger plugged in, the charger keeps the batteries topped off.

Hmm. I always take mine out when they're done charging. Is this to also help with overheating as well? Because mine overheats now when the board is on even for 10 minutes of being on. Its older Obsidian 2.0 though. How much longer do you keep the batteries in after they're actually done charging?

I'll give that a try next time. How long would you say exactly? Maybe it'll help with heating issues on my Bellicose.

I never unplug the charger with the batteries in it. It stays plugged in 24/7.

Hmm. I'll have to try it. One battery always charges first then the next one gets done so maybe that's why my board heats too. Just thought that would always be dangerous in a way. Thanks for the info though and I'm sure this also helps the original poster on this.

Its actually in the " Trustfire Battery Issue " right above this thread. This is where I learned to do all of this when I got my first sound saber.

Ziran one of your two batteries may not be working properly or charging completely.  Do you have extras?  Li Ion batteries do tend to "burn out" after a couple of years.  I recommend owning a few extra pair.

No these are still mostly a whole new set, charger and batteries. I guess its just because I put the left battery in first then the right and that could be why also.

I'm curious as to what would make you think that the order in which you installed the batteries made a difference.  I've never heard of that being problematic for anyone.

I'm not familiar with older Obsidian versions or whether heat was a problem with them; you might ask some of the fellas who've been around on the forum as long as you have.  Has it always done that?  With any set of batteries?

Typically, batteries will create heat as they bleed off extra voltage which is common for any electronics using resistors.  Are you using a buck puck?  The buck puck "should" keep too much current from going into the Obsidian board in theory.  If you're satisfied that the heat is being generated by the board and not the batteries, perhaps your sound board has a short somewhere.  It's my understanding that Obsidian does not actually regulate current by itself, but if you have a buck puck it shouldn't be a problem.

If you think that the heat is being generated by the batteries, buy a battery tester or take them to a local battery place and have them tested.  If one of your batteries is not charging completely then it will put an extra load on the other battery in trying to provide the proper amount of power needed to power your saber and soundboard.  That could cause one or both of the batteries to overheat.

Sorry, didnt mean to derail the thread there.

Magikal, have you tried charging up the batteries and trying again?  The behavior that you are describing sounds like what happens when the saber is out of batteries.  Due to having the buck puck installed in the hilt, the saber will not dim and fade out like you would expect from a stunt saber or a flashlight.  They just turn off when they don't have enough voltage left to power both the LED and the sound board.

Most people seem to get between 1-2 hours of runtime from a charge, depending on whether that is constant or intermittent running.
