I've been holding off gluing in the switch on this project because gluing in seems so final, but with Lord C's method of using electrical tape around the switch thread so it can be press fitted and easily removed I've put this back together.... Thanks again Lord C  Smiley

This is my first attempt at recessing an av into a hilt instead of using a switch bezel, not perfect to my OCD expectations, but great for now until I have time to finish the rough edges, lol.... After taking out the std latching switch, I drilled out with a 16mm bit for the av then used an 18mm bit to countersink for recessing.... Then used a Dremel to clean up the edges, still want do a bit more work on that, some time soon..... I used a small o-ring for now just to soften the join between the switch and the hilt, which I think might work great when I try this with a black switch on a black hilt in the future.....

This is a AAA stunt saber at the moment, with a m/l converter for the av, and my second with a small accent LED in the pommel..... I had an AS LED in this Sentinel v4 previously, but for some reason put a GB in when I put it together this evening.... Cheers  Smiley

Great result.

I've been curious how difficult this would be to do.   As I've been learning spin techniques with my Aeon v3 it annoys me a bit how intrusive the guarded switch can be at times.   A nice low profile switch would be nice.

Oh!  I like it!  That accent LED in the pommel is a really nice touch.  I might have to try something like that.

Lovely touches to you're Sentinel V4. Completing the final touches so YOU know it's done always takes that extra time, I know. That's part of the reason why I hesitate to customize myself. Tongue   The work you've done looks good!

Yea, Hazard I wish I had easy access to a machine shop to do perfect cuts, drill holes, machined holes and even custom lathe work....... Oh the things I could dream up  Shocked

Brother, nice job on the machining and switch!  I absolutely love the finish on the hilt.  My wife is getting me a saber for our anniversary, and I've been wrestling with which one while not hurting her bank account.  I think you just helped me make up my mind!  Points for showing me the light....in my DARK world! Grin

Like the look of the accent.  I'm designing a Saber with the yuri extension with vented coupler and an accent led would be AWESOME!  I'm not very experienced with electronics but do have some basic knowledge. Could you provide details about what you used and how you installed the accent led?  Thanks.

This Sentinel is a stunt saber that I installed a m/l (momentary to latching) converter for the illuminated av.. I like to use the small red jst connectors for my connections, so I simply soldered an extra connector to the wires for the switch LED, bought a small 3mm green LED and resister (pic below) for the accent, and soldered them up with enough wire to go past the battery pack.. This way I can easily disconnect or swap over the accent LED if I want.....

I'm still learning about all the proper technical stuff working with LED forward voltage and correct resistors etc, and with my basic knowledge also, I just assumed some things following other wiring diagrams I found here http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=8667.msg127316#msg127316 and everything worked, lol....

I'm getting more serious with my re-builds etc and am about to re-wire with a v3 obsidian soundboard.... I'm hoping I can use my system of colour coded connectors to be able to swap over a "battery pack with m/l setup" with a "battery pack and soundboard setup" so that any saber I've installed an av into can have sound when I want..... That's been the dream, lol  Cheesy

Thought I'd add to this.... The other week I also put a smaller 12mm illuminated av into an Initiate v2, a bit easier as the standard US machining for the standard latching switch already has a recessed area about 17mm diameter and a 12mm av has a top ring diameter of about 14mm.... The switch hole had to be drilled out with a 12mm bit, and I also used a Dremel to round off the edges of the recessed area so it's not a sharp edge.... It's so fun in this little hilt.....

wow!  THAT's some customization!  Very nice, man, looks sweet and I'm sure very practical for avoiding accidental switch pressing Smiley  Love the accent led too I definitely want to try that sometime.
