If you mean the 3 Doors Down song?  Pass.  I despise that song.   Tongue  I just don't like that band in general, honestly.  They don't catch my musical fancy at all.  That's just a preference, though.  It's not a "they suck because I don't like them" statement.  They're just not my thing.

I do love some bands like Nirvana who are considered "simple" to some degree.  I also like the White Stripes and a lot of what I guess people would call "alternative" bands?  Back in the day, I loved Alice in Chains (before everyone freakin' died) and there was this band called L7 that I also really liked.  Ah, the 90's.

You're killin' me Smalls. Granted that song was probably played way too much back in the day, but they weren't terrible, just not everyone's cup-o-tea. Bad example. I guess they were relevant in the early aughts, but have since died out. I only ever bought their first album. I particularly liked that I could understand their lyrics, though. And the points of the lyrics weren't cryptic. I always appreciated that about 3DD. {heh, That looks like Thumbelina's bra size after a boob job Tongue}

But I never really got Nirvana. Could be due to a lack of "herbal supliments". Same reason I never got Pink Floyd. As I got older I found that I didn't so much not like them, as much I despised how they are classified as rock. I couldn't pick out Alice in Chains if my life depended on it. (This is my piss-people-off paragraph.)

But I have always loved the White Stripes. Especially after they made a video out of LEGOs.

[Don't hate me] Another group that falls under the umbrella of alternative that I've always liked is Orgy. Their songs are more hit than miss for me, even though they don't always do it for me.

So?  If that's your opinion, then other people can get over it.  You're allowed to have one, just as everyone else is.  If others don't like it?  Whatever, they can have their own opinion.

I like all the band you just mentioned, but I apparently commit a horrible sin by preferring "The Division Bell" above any other Pink Floyd album.  GUESS WHO DOESN'T CARE??  Spoiler:  It's me.  Wink

I'm a big fan of Orgy myself.  "Beautiful Disgrace" is one of my favorite songs ever.

Of course it's just an opinion. When I said (this is my piss-people-off paragraph), I was refering to the great potential it had, not my intention was to p.o. people. I had a friend who absolutely loved Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins. I just didn't get 'em. But then many don't get why I love Rammstein so much.  Undecided And as far as Floyd goes, I can't really hate on them, because all I've ever heard of them is what always gets played on the radio. They might actually have stuff that rocks, but I don't know.

Always been a fan of Stiches, myself. Which playing as we speak since I could resist playing Candyass while talking about Orgy. Grin

I guess it all comes down to what speaks to you. I never thought I would be into Ed Sheerin, but ever since "Don't F### with my love" came out, I've thought differently. I love that song.

Yeah, people (self included) can get passionately ridiculous about music.  It's a very important part of life for just about everyone!

I don't really like Pearl Jam OR Smashing Pumpkins, honestly.  I prefer Nine Inch Nails and Metallica, both of which were still going strong during the time of Pumpkin/Jam.  I personally have a curious affinity for very traditional Celtic music (especially bagpipes) as well as extremely dissonant symphonic music such as Stravinsky.  I vastly prefer minor over major keys in almost every genre.  Like you said, it's what "speaks" to me.

Music is a language that crosses all barriers.  That's why it's so great.  Smiley

Well spoken, Madam. I'm not up on Igor Stravinsky, but I know the name. I too have an affinity for minor keys. They just stir me.

One of my most favorite esoteric and not-widely-known pieces is Russian Christmas Music by Alfred Reed. I first fell in love with this tune my sophomore year of high school when we marched to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axGZUcK70Xo

It is a truly phenomenal piece that just guts me every time I hear it.

Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana(let's see how many times I can say I like them before everyone just throws their hands up and screams "WE GET IT!"), Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Those are my bands! (I like Grunge if you haven't noticed by now).

I'm in the same boat with Floyd though. Outside of "Money" and "Comfortably Numb" I don't really get their music. Though they are talented musicians. I usually piss people off when I tell them I HATE "The Wall" though. Those British kids singing is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Nine Inch Nails is a good band. And of coarse Metallica is always good. So is Megadef and Slayer, though my favorite "Big 4" was always Anthrax. And Nox, You'll be happy to know, I'm wearing my Iron Maiden shirt as I type this.

One artist I've REALLY gotten into lately is Beck. I love his music(yes he has other music besides "Loser" although that IS a great song). I find myself rocking out to Journey a lot lately as well.

Oooh, I forgot about Rage. Though I liked what they turned into. If I'm not mistaken, didn't the band, minus lead vocals, become Audioslave? Love me some Audioslave.

And no. You can never go wrong with some Metallica. Hell, even my mother will rock out to Enter Sandman.

Anyone here a fan of Angus Young and his crew?

I mainly listen to metal or hard rock ( I like the driving/aggressive rhythms and guitars more than the lyrics but those can be good too).

When I'm not listening to that I listen to the soundtracks from Game of Thrones.  It's mostly very somber sounding orchestral, with violins or whatnot.  I'd like to get more music like that but not really sure what to look for.

You could always search for stuff by John Williams. Wink

How can anyone not be a fan?  Cool
Classic rock is mostly what I listen too, with a little bit of oldies and some Linkin Park thrown in.  I am also a fan of Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu (back in his Squaresoft days).

Also not sure how widely known she is, but a young woman who goes by Malukah.  She has done some beautiful covers of songs from Skyrim and other video games.

You could always search for stuff by John Williams. Wink

For sure.  Big fan of John Williams and Hans Zimmer as well.

Anything is possible. I love the older LP, but ever since Minutes to Midnight, they just seem to have lost their way.

Me.  I'm not a fan.   Cheesy  The only song I like by them is "Big Balls" for obvious freakin' reasons.  Know who I else I don't like?  The Rolling Stones.  Also not a fan of much Led Zeppelin.  What, you wanna fight about it?  Wink

I'm more of a Van Halen, Beatles, Rush, Yes, Journey, ZZ Top, 38 Special, Boston kinda person.  However, I will say that Heart did this cover of "Stairway to Heaven" that brought me to tears.

Alright, that's it. You and me. Let's go.    Wink Tongue

I'm more or less a fan of ACDC because I love Young's guitar style. Their rythms also have a tendancy to get my head moving. But the lyrics for the most part leave me limp, and both Scott and Johnson's voice are the musical equivelent to a pissed of cat.

As for the Stones, it took me many years to appreciate them. I would go so far as to say I'm a fan, but I won't change the station if they come on.

Two against one now.  I got my new Bellicose so I'm ready to whoop up on somebody.  Anybody who doesn't like Stones or Zeppelin is asking for it.  Grin

I agree with about half of who you listed.  Not a fan of Van Halen, Rush or Boston.  I love the openings to Boston songs, just not the rest of the song.  I'm going to have to find that Heart cover though, I didn't know about that one.
