Be who you are and say what you feel

« on: December 16, 2015, 04:52:26 AM »

I've seen a lot of Jedi/Sith tunics for sale out there, but I haven't seen a single one with the proper shoulder tucks.   A friend of mine made one for me that has the proper shoulder tucks, but aside from that, I haven't seen anyone else do it.

Do any of you have contact with a shop or an individual who can make a "correct" tunic?  I would very much like to get a better Anakin tunic and I'm willing to pay well for it, if it's accurate.

there are quite a few rebel legion members who do it 'properly' with the tucks and have tutorials. if you are getting it custom made just bring it up with your seamstress and they should be able to do it. its really not too difficult to do the tucks.

I understand that it can be done quite easily (according to friends of mine who have looked at tutorials and such), but the issue I'm facing is that I need someone to actually make the thing.   I have fallen out of contact with the friend who made my last one, so I was really asking if anyone here had recommendations for custom work or otherwise.  I personally am a huge fan of how the tucks look and I've always wondered why more of the standard issue tunics don't have them.

Yeah I don't know how to do the shoulder tucks. I probably can with my recent costume since the tabbards has Velcro on the shoulders and such. Any guide pics would be helpful though =]

attention to detail likely. a lot of people just aren't going to worry about it. A lot more probably dont even realise they are there. Most people just automatically assume oh it is just like a karate gi... well, sadly its not that simple, theres a lot more detailing, not to mention the skirting design to the bottom of the tunic to get it accurate.

Twin Roses is one recommended place on here. There's another but the names slipped my mind... possibly coz its 8am and i still haven't slept thanks to TFA premiere and a lot of caffeine  Grin Thank the Force I don't have work at the moment!

Also since there may be confusion as to what we are referring to when we say shoulder tucks.... here is some random person's photo I have found

You can see it clearly in this pic too:

it is that extra bit on the shoulder, under the tabard, that almost makes it look like the sleeve is coming out of a sleeveless tunic (that's about the best way I can describe it anyway... though in the top photo's case it might be a second tunic otherwise thats a large tuck!). The basic construction of it is you make the shoulders too wide, then once everything is together you 'tuck' it back up underneath and stitch it into place, tapering off the 'tuck' as you go down front and back so it doesnt go all the way under your arm but finishes at the side. it gives the effect of an extra layer sticking out when its not really

So if you want the proper proper look then its almost a 2 man job to get a costume on basically. And lol. Nice. Just don't try to spoil the new movie like some of the other douchers are trying to out there Tongue Your dude looks cool in that tunic by the way and cool pic of Obi-wan, one of my top favorite classic characters next to Aleck's Obi-wan of course. "That's a name I haven't gone by oh... Since before you were born" =] I usually let my sleeves hang down though for kind of a warrior look anyway

YES, that's what I'm talking about, B1londeange1!  The tunic that my friend made has the correct tucks.

I just checked out Twin Roses and it does look like they do the tucks on some of their tunics.  I'll shoot them an email when they reopen and see what's up.

errr... no. It isn't. you fold the shoulder underneath back on itself, pin it all, stitch it making sure you dont catch the sleeve in it, then you are good. you can't 'fix' a non tuck designed tunic to do that because you simply don't have enough material. it really isn't very difficult at all to do, especially if you seamstress has any skills (which I hope so if being commissioned! Tongue)

and no, I am not an idiot. I refuse to do something as childish and rude as that. I have plenty of friends who haven't seen it yet given I was able to do a midnight screening and I would never ruin a movie like that for another, any movie.

It's so funny you bring this up Nox. I am currently working on designs for my first costume and I definitely wanted shoulder tucks on the tunic. I noticed them in all the research I did that the shoulder tucks were present. I was wondering why more people don't have them on there cosutmes.

I'll be emailing twin rose in the new year for mine as well. Should be fun
