Do you guys think the ultra edge has any effect on how dark the color is? I wonder if ultra edge would make dark violet amethyst lighter

In my experience UE vs standard blades doesn't change the color, but it does change the intensity and "solidity" of the color, if that makes any sense.  UE blades tend to look more solid, like a solid core of light, where the standard blades are more shimmery and translucent.  Cooler colors also like the UE (or our eyes like the UE effect on cooler colors, maybe?) better than warm, so reds, oranges, yellows like standard blades better and blues, purples and blue-greens like the UE.  Green seems to be a total toss-up.  :-)

So in short, no, no change, just a change in ... texture?  Does that word work?  LOL

DVA looks nicer in Midgrade to my eyes. You can see the hint of blue in DVA with Midgrade.

VA looks nicer in Ultraedge to my eyes. It's a nicely diffused lighter purple if that is what you are after.

I wanted to chime in to this thread.

Now that I own 3 Ultrasabers, I can say the best blade is the UltraEdge, if you want it for dueling get the heavy duty, if you don't want it for dueling don't get heavy duty, but definitely UltraEdge.

The UltraEdge blade just makes it look so much more like a real lightsaber.

My $.02!

This is a great explanation, with 1 exception. It mentioned MG, and UE, but whats the benefit of the UEMG? It there even 1?

Ultraedge Midgrade just means a Midgrade blade with a white film. Keep in mind that Mid/Heavy grade and Ultraedge/non-Ultraedge are 2 different categories, with Mid/Heavy relating to weight and durability and Ultraedge/non-Ultraedge relating to cosmetics. The benefits afforded by UEMG are that it's brighter than UEHG, and weighs less. However, being a midgrade blade, it's less durable.

Right. I think I just confused my terms. Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes early mornings happen.

After having received my saber the other day, I'll give my own testimony.  Sunrider's Destiny, as originally stated by Deep, looks just "okay" in UltraEdge Heavy Grade.  It does get noticably dimmer towards the tip of the blade.  Granted, I only have a stunt with the AAA battery setup.  I'm gonna keep my Heavy Grade around for dueling purposes, and pick up an UltraEdge MidGrade on my next paycheck, as I really want SRD to look as vibrant as it can be for convention season.

I tend to go with ultraedge for yellow, but it depends on the shade you get. Mine is quite a light shade, so I prefer UE for it.

Ultimately, you won't know for sure unless you try it. I tend to suggest starting with a midgrade blade for your first, as there aren't any colours that look bad in it, but some colours do benefit from a UE blade.

Here's a thread with pictures of Sentinel Yellows in different blade types.

Ok I'll apologize for having so many questions...but I am wanting a Archon V2 in Cosular Green. I am a shorter person around 5' 7". The reviews I've seen say that the blade goes about four inches into the omitter. I like the 32' blades but should I get a 36' if it goes into the hilt that deep? Plus I'm still on the fence about the Midgrade vs the Ultraedge blade...I like the silver look when off..but I want it to be bright in Consular Green. All help and guidance is very appreciated!

It's personal preference, but I'm the same height and I use 36" blades in all my sabers. I only use UE(I do have a couple standard blades) and I don't really see the color washing in any of my colors that others seem too. I think CG looks very nice in UE. If you're hard on your blades, go HG, otherwise just get UE midgrade.
