It's an all black mask that I want to add some color too and give it an intimidating Sith look. I was thinking maybe a dark red for the bone part of the mask or perhaps leave the bone part black and paint the rest red. Not sure what to do really because I don't want to add too much color to it, but don't want to leave it all black. Anyway what do you think about the mask? I'm sure some of you have seen this one before.

That's a pretty awesome mask to work on!
It seems to offer a lot of customization options - I'd highlight the area around (mostly above) the eyes, the ribs give a godd opportunity to paint on the top too and the teeth could also be touched Smiley
If I had more time in the foreseeable future I'd gladly use a photo editor software on the first picture but actually you can do that too to try on ideas before the conversion.
Keep us posted!

Yellow and purple, of course, Darth Skeletor.

Wow buddygroove!

Great mask. Smiley

Maybe grey on the bone parts?   Perhaps go all "slimy" green for the teeth too?

Thanks, Lord Rapine. Grey is a good idea. Maybe red as well.

Hello buddygroove, Everyone,

I saw this post yesterday and as soon as I saw that mask thought of the Alien Xenomorph. I actually got to inspect one of the Stop-Go models of the Alien used for the animation (and it was screen used!) back in the 90's. What struck me about the model was the skull and the sheen on it. The model artists airbrushed a marble like basecoat of medium green paint then layered a darker green coat. This created a sort of "brain matter" appearance. They then used a script-liner brush to paint veins and blood vessels using a thin black paint. To finish the effect they layered multiple coats of a clear lacquer. When it was finished the skull looked like a glass marble. I thought you could do a similar effect between the bone fingers but use a red combination.
I have edited your pics (hope you don't mind) to try and give an impression of how it might look.

It is only a rough edit, but hopefully it gives you some ideas and it does have green teeth.

kind regards,

I do not mind at all that you edited my pic because it looks awesome! Thanks so much for showing me this. I am definitely going to look into getting something close to this type of paint job. The red under the bones is a great idea. And I may give the bones a better black color. Thanks for sharing you helped me out a lot.   Smiley Smiley Smiley

Hello buddygroove,

Glad I could help. I am still learning all the little tricks and techniques with GIMP (a freeware photo editing package) but I managed to get the pics looking something like what I meant. I will continue to follow this thread and see how you get on.
Have a point for your efforts so far.

kind regards,

The Darkside leads to sorrow; the Light to apathy.

I think this depends rather heavily on what sort of Sith this is. Species? Main traits? Lightsaber type? Preferred Form? Background? Aggression and rage, or mind-tricks and lies? Working from the shadows? Or fighting on the front lines? Dark apprentice? Or powerful master?

I will say that black, dark gray, and dark red go very well together. And a few hints of gold mixed in could be very interesting.

Another question is, what material do you see this mask being made of in-universe? Plastoid? Durasteel? Phrik? If it's more metal or more plastic will effect the coloring and finish, unless of course it's entirely painted over in-universe.

Also, how old/worn of a mask are you thinking of? It could be newly made for a new Sith, or ancient and worn, a relic of a darker time.

Dino27, those are good questions and I will try my best to answer them. Without trying to trample on the Star Wars lore I think of my made up "Sith" character as an unknown entity that is mostly made up of myth. He's a story from thousands of years ago who balanced between the dark and light. He's looked at as a Grim Reaper type who harshly slaughtered evil in a very brutal way with the dark side, but could bring himself to the light in order to calm himself and find peace. His attacks are fueled by absolute rage making him an unstoppable force temporally relieving him of any pain. His attacks are aggressive and he lives in the shadows and wields the Reaper saber. Idk lol This is just a character I have been brainstorming. Please let me know if I'm stepping over boundaries of the Star Wars lore. I would love him to be considered one of the first force users ever, but I don't have the right to claim that idea. I want to play within the Star Wars rules lol

For Tyeth: I bought the paint, but been too busy to tackle the mask. Damn work has been getting in the way, but I'm still determain to make this mask come alive. Unfortunately I'm not talented enough to do anything close to as good as the pictures you photo shopped for me. And I dont' even have good paint. Just cheap paint from Walmart. But I will post here when I make some progress. Thanks again to you and all.
