Hi Forum Members - I was wondering if anyone has both the Azure Reaper + Azure menace as part of their saber collection?

Just curious if the emitter/pommel combinations all have the matching Azure blue color tones or if the anodization is different?

Thoughts?

It can be different on the same saber.  I don't have either but I've seen in some reviews where they have slight variations in tone.  Since the Reaper has four anodized parts, you can have four different shades of blue.  I'd imagine the Menace has this issue too.  So, you can't guarantee they'll match each other or even themselves.  That's just how anodizing is, I guess.

Anodizing is a process that has a LOT of variables.  The exact aluminum alloy (and even within an alloy that is, technically, the same, batch to batch will have variances), the temper of it (which is affected by the machining to shape the part that is then anodized), the actual shape of the finished piece, the batch of anodizing, etc.

A company that does anodizing, in fact, will specify to customers a range of results, not an exact color match.  Generally, they'll guarantee that the color will fall between a "light" extreme and a "dark" extreme.

So, yeah, there are variations in exact shade.  That's not something that you can get away from, in current technology.  But, whoever it is that US uses for their anodizing is pretty good, based on what I've seen, at getting a pretty good match, part to part.  You just can't expect 100%, because that's just not possible.

So, I guess the answer to the question is that they're anodized to the same "azure" range, and so are the "same" color within those tolerances.  If you wanted to mix and match parts between them, you could expect no more color variation than between the individual parts on either saber on its own.

I do  Grin

The blue is slightly different piece to piece, doesn't bother me that much, really, but might be an issue to anyone that wanted it "perfect", if you know what I mean . . . I do have some pics somewhere, I'll find them, and one with my curved azure Reaper with azure Menace emitter & pommel . . . here they are . . . If I can find some time, I'll see if I can get some more pics for ya K . . . cheers  Smiley
