I thought my Shark would look better in all silver and gold without the little splash of black the Archon V3.1 neck provided. So, I set about to remover the black from that neck.

Here it is as it started the night:

I didn't want to mess up my favorite saber so I did some chemical testing on a spare Flramberge LE collar I had lying around and got good results from Easy-Off followed by a polishing with Maas metal polish:

Both rings started the same black:

I went ahead and sprayed my emitter and let it soak for a little bit (3-5 minutes). I rinsed it under warm water and found the black removed but the parts spotty (its in another spare piece I had to protect the threads):

After a bit of polishing the spots cleaned off:

I reassembled it and ... Nice shiny saber:

Nice! You saber looks gorgeous like that! See, if you managed this on the neck of the archon V3.1, I might try it on a dark prophecy to get rid of the black anodizing on the sections just above and just bellow the switch section. Also, I wish US offered an all silver (and gold) version of the archon 3.1, would make for a great Jacen Solo hilt.

That came out extremely well!  Thanks for the tip on how you did it.

Point for that one for sure . . .

Winning? Is that what you think it's about? I'm not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It's not because it's fun. God knows it's not because it's easy. It's not even because it works, because it hardly ever does. I do what I do because it's right! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind! It's just that. Just kind.

If I were going to try to remove just the color above and below the switch I would try to mask the areas I don't want removed with some kind of rubberized tape. I wouldn't spray the cleaner on heavy as it could seep under the masking. I would try applying it by spraying it on an old cloth and rubbing or dabbing it on. Wear gloves of course!

When I get a chance I'll try it later with my spare cross guard cross so you can see if it's worth trying. I'd hate to see you Prophecy come out a mess.

Wow, who knew Easy Off would take off anodizing?  That's really cool, have a point for that info and for the awesome mod to your saber.  It looks great, and it now matches the rest of your collection perfectly.  Smiley

Now I'm just waiting for the Scorpion pommel to come back in stock so I can get one and strip it and shine up then this saber will be complete as far as the exterior goes.

I just came on here wondering if I'd have to post about removing the anodizing on my standard Archon 3.1 pommel...looks like I won't have to do that!   Grin

Gonna have a classic style pommel for my Archon in no time, was regretting not getting that version.

Wearing my Archon on a carabiner around town (yes, I'm that guy Roll Eyes ) has worn off the anodizing on the bottom of the pommel near the Tri-ring...

Trying this out with my standard Archon pommel, but 5 minutes of soaking did nothing after I washed it. Letting it soak longer.

Unfortunately I don't have the heavy duty one, only this kind: http://mobileimages.lowes.com/product/converted/062338/062338740171.jpg

Is that the problem here?

I don't know the difference between the two but the heavy duty definitely worked quickly on both pieces I tried so far. The first one I did soak for around 15 minutes. The second went faster but I didn't time it. I just checked it then reapplied if it wasn't ready.

Ok . . . just to add to firehand10k's AWESOME process . . .  Cool

Got my MHS Scorpion pommel . . . and I checked under our sink, here in Oz we had some Mr Muscle Heavy Duty oven cleaner . . . thought I'd give it a go, and take a few pics . . . I didn't have any time for polish yet, but here's just some quick pics of what I did, this literally took me a bit over half an hour . . . sprayed on oven cleaner, left for 15 minutes, then used the foam to scrub with a brush, and rinse in water . . . fairly simple really, now I just have to give it a polish  Smiley

I taped the threads with electrical tape, and you can see it protected that area quite well . . .
