So say you spend $450 on a top of the line Ultrasabers but then you see in 3-4 years they've released a new RGBW LED that is SUPER bright. And say it's only like $20. Is there anything stopping me from just slipping out the old one and soldering in the new one? I'm asking more so to prevent buyer's remorse.

In fairness, LEDs are pretty damn bright right now!  It's continually improving, but there's a certain point where it reaches a level where your eyes start to hurt (I have a few hilts like this).  However, it's always possible to upgrade your LED down the line.  It's not quite as simple as you said, since it greatly depends on the forward voltage and die setup (for instance the Tri-Cree versus RGBW), but it's very possible.
