New Sabers: Butcher & Savior

I've been eyeing the new offerings.  I like the look of the new Aeon V5, but I keep thinking that the emitter claws would immediately come off because they are right where I grip the thing, and then its really just a V4 with a couple of slight changes.   But the Sentinel V5...

That one I like.  A LOT. 

Thinking the Dark Sentinel V5 LE, with either an Archon or Renegade LE (small) pommel, in either VA or AB.  Or Tri-Cree AS and cut some more filters.  :-)   But I really like the black/silver two-tone hilt with light blue or VA blade.  :-)

I can't really put my finger on why this hilt draws me like it does, but its just amazing.  My only worry is that, again, the grip point I tend to use, the forward choke, looks like it might be compromised by the new window arrangement.

Of note: This is my ultimate problem with Butcher.  The best place to grip the hilt for balance is where the fins are the thickest and the grip becomes the most untenable.   It looks amazing, but ultimately what I care about is how it works in my hand.  That's why I swing my Aeon V4 and Catalyst around ... and the Guardian sits on the shelf.

But none of it matters ... for now.  But one day, a Dark Sentinel V5 LE will be on its way to my house. 

Actually, I have tiny baby hands and I’ve found the Butcher actually works pretty well one handed once you can manage the weight. The curve of the claws running down the side mimics the shape of the hand pretty well. From there, the edges of the claws and the ribs of the emitter make for a nice finger brace, so I can actually hold it a lot better than other hilts of similar or smaller sizes (it’s MUCH easier/comfier than Electrum Wind and, in some ways, Emperor’s Hand). Granted, it’s a different grip than I would typically use for something else, but it doesn’t take terribly long for it to feel natural. You DO have to go lower to the thinner part of the hilt for flourishes though. Ribs also make it easier to prevent turning in the hand, which makes the single press “lock” flash feature easier to manage. It IS heavy though

Savior is super comfy and light though. Only issue for me is that it’s so smooth around it turns easily in combat and it’s easy to lose track of the AV switch

Thanks for the report!  Using them to enhance the grip...  I would have to try it out.  Maybe I'll have a chance to get one at a con.

I'm also wondering what the saber would look like with the fins removed entirely and with a Guardian or Scorpion pommel installed.  That might be another option, and would make an interesting looking hilt.  :-)

I can test both Guardian and scorpion pommels since I have both and post pics, but knowing my luck I would rather nor risk removing the ribs lol. I’ll test and post later when I get home.

Granted, I’ve had the grip concept before receiving the saber, so it’s been thought through. I’m just glad it worked out (reread the last part of chapter 10 “What is in a name” and you’ll understand ).

Indeed XD makes piano difficult. I have to stretch to reach an octave.

But if I can hold it fine (these pics do not demonstrate the grip I described) I’m sure people with normal sized hands can figure it out. I did some light sparring with it two days ago and it felt fine, super secure the whole time. Only awkward part was figuring out how to change between front and backhand, but I always have issues with that, so I can’t blame the hilt

Only the Butcher appears to be this way. The Savior doesn't have a RCP hole if you don't order in-hilt recharge.

I brought my butcher and savior to practice today and the Grand Master commented that the butcher would actually be a better defense saber because of the weight for blocks with the savior in the dominant hand for speed in attacks if one were to dual wield them. I did the full two hours with the Savior and it wields beautifully.
