Totally this. Can't express how much hate I'm getting for dropping a 350 in a 40's Ford. Sorry, if Ford made an engine as reliable and part-friendly as a 350, I'd use that. Not to mention, it's what I grew up on, but at the end of the day, it's my car and I don't care what other people think I should do to it.
Same goes for sabers or any other hobby people have
Agreed, there's a reason why most Hollywood stunt cars uses 350 blocks in most stunt cars. Back to what you're saying, if that's what you like, then it's what you like despite what anyone says and it's yours to do whatever it is that you want. |

With you! The 350 is an AMAZING engine! I'm a life-long Ford fan, but if you can fit that engine into your project, DO IT! :-) And you're right, the hate, especially between the 'purists' is disgusting... |

Sorry if I went on a bit at length about the haters issue. I do feel it’s relevant whenever US comes out with something new—and especially the movie/game replicas. I haven’t played the games either, but the US Savior seems like a nice take on the saber. And I would like to use this example to add something further considering size. I’ve had a couple of comments on my Electrum Wind review that stated the same issues. I’ve tried to point out (politely) a couple of obvious facts—some of which have been touched on in this thread: While the blade of an actual lightsaber would be made of photons, and therefore weightless, all balance and functionality resides in the hilt. US is at least considering the point of balance and giving room to grip their “combat ready” sabers. Accuracy—in terms of movie saber—does not equate balance. Just look at the Mace Windu pic a few posts back and it tells me that it would be an easy slip to hit the power button, or accidentally grab the blade on something so short when doing some fancy maneuver. Of course, the Jedi had the whole force thing to guide them. However, there’s no room for balance when executing those fancy spins used in the prequels on some of those movie sabers. Back to the savior—whether it’s a fantasy duel, or trying to imagine being a Jedi who actually had to wield one of these things against some pretty large, formidable opponents—which would you rather have...the US version, or a small tube of weightless metal you couldn’t realistically (or safely) get your hands around, much less wield accurately without using the force to spin and stay at the right place in your hands without losing them? And wouldn’t such a use of the force to manipulate a poorly constructed weapon distract, or divide focus from other things? Or would you (as a smart Jedi) just construct yourself a better saber with a bit more length and weight for proper balance? So hasn’t US course correct some of those flaws in terms of making a better dueling saber? Isn’t that kind of the point for a combat saber? Oh, my...that’s probably too much logic  |

Yeah maybe on the vent thread or something, now back to Butchers and Saviors... so anybody got a Butcher that is not black or blue anodized hilt yet? Same with the Savior, anyone got got one in something other than gold accent? Also the Butcher is my first saber to draw blood (mine unfortunately), totally my fault but I guess it is not called the Butcher for nothing.  |

How?
Overreacted when dropping as it was just on carpet but anyway reached down too quick and stabbed myself between the fingers with one of the points as the hilt landed straight up instead of at an angle like I was expecting. The points aren't sharp it is just I used too much force to try and catch it because I was worried about scratching it, lol. Looks worse than it felt, it actually doesn't hurt much at all. |

This is an excellent point. UltraSabers is up front about producing combat-ready sabers; they even pride themselves on it. Everyone who owns one has likely noticed that payment goes to a company called "Combat Saber Specialists". They do a superb job redesigning canon hilts to balance accuracy against functionality. It makes sense to me that if what you're looking for is an absolute replica of a canon saber hilt seen in the films, and nothing more; you will be looking elsewhere. |
