Actually, I believe the V4 sabers (first year for Sentinel and Apprentice sabers) were released in 2014. *hands Logos a kleenex*

You folks probably won't believe this but in July I'll have been a member here for NINE years. I joined in 2016 when I was invited by Lord Rapine to apply. I met Rapine on the blogging platform we both used. I told him I was a bit apprehensive because 1) I was still a member of "The Other Guys" forum (where I was getting trolled but none of the Admin would do anything) and 2) I didn't own an Ultrasaber hilt. Anyhoo I had a PM exchange with the owners here and they welcomed me to join. But guess what....the "Other" forum shut down whilst my blogsite is still going strong and more importantly I have discovered MANY, MANY more great friends here. So if I haven't said before....THANKS EVERYONE! |

And hopefully planning for new bigger shenanigans.....  I think I still have some life in me yet (and more designs) I don't see any posts from Lord Rapine nowadays. I guess he has moved on. Points for us for staying around. We may be getting older but I still enjoy igniting my sabers. Hello Everybody.... Sorry it's been a minute since I posted anything new here but I have been both ill and slightly busy with something, something ten years service, something something Sithy.... Anyhoo...more about that nearer the time. Today I'd like to show you a design I came up with inspired by my trip to New Zealand nearly two years ago now. It was such an amazing trip I was moved to create a few hilts as tribute and this particular saber was in tribute to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where agreement between the native Maori tribal leaders and the English settlers was signed into law, resulting in the formation of New Zealand. The treaty grounds are in a gorgeous location named the Bay of Islands near Paihia, where on the shoreline is a large grass plain which served as the campsite where 400+ tribal leaders camped during the "Negotiations". I stayed in a chalet overlooking this campsite and did get to walk the trail up to the place where the signatures were exchanged. I was invited to the Maori Community House - known as a Wharenui -and experienced a Haka before hearing a talk of the history by local Moari. So here is my tribute to the people and history of Feb 1840 with “Whenua Tapu” Saber the Sacred Ground Saber     The whole experience was unforgettable and very moving - basically this area is the birthplace of the land we know as New Zealand. Hope you enjoyed this one. |

Loving that tribal band.
Hi Logos, thanks very much. I didn't have chance to study the art and language so I found a basic looking tribal design that kinda referenced the water and mountains (which are major tenets of Maori culture). The actual embossing was created using a special FX built into Blender that takes a black and white image and creates a "Bump Map" creating the illusion on ridges and depth. |

Thanks MavRick....the saber is really special to me and I loved working on it as it seemed to design itself. All the elements just seemed to balance each other and needed little in the way of tweaking things. The trip lasted a whole month and covered BOTH islands from top to bottom and coast to coast. I got up close with some Glow Worms, petted a Possum...made friends with Wallabies and saw FIVE Kiwis in one day. New Zealand obviously has a much stronger link to Tolkien and the Rings stories and as such I visited the studios where the costumes, props and creatures were created (WETA Studios) for the Rings and various other films and shows (including The Power Rangers). I travelled to the top of an active volcano in a cable car named the "SkyWaka"! I came back with over 8000 photos. But what I couldn't photgraph was the warmth and character of the people there - they were all fantastic and I hope to one day return to see them again. I LOVE this saber design, FT!!! I REALLY wish that UltraSabers could make this hilt Thanks Dutch, I would be over the moon if this particular hilt got built, as behind the scenes it has great meaning to me (remembering my trip and meeting the Maori and New Zealander people). To be honest I don't think it would take much retooling, maybe a rejig to do engraving like that found on the Spectre or investment in acid etching tech. Glad you liked it. Point inbound. |
