Perhaps it was a British knock-off. Points if you can find pics.

Well I was slightly off with the name, it was just called "Beetle" and was made/distributed by Milton Bradley Games in the UK during the 80's....

And during my hunt online I found an old 1960's era version named "Beetle Drive"

Mother freller. It deleted my post.

I commented on how I hate when "they" decide that a name needs to be changed between British and American. Like when they changed Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to Sorcerer's Stone. I remembered the first time I watched the movie and was like "...that description sounds a LOT like a philosopher's stone." Then I heard they changed it because they thought American's were knowledgeable enough to know what a philosopher's stone was.  Angry You jumped up, piece of.............OOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I've known what a philosopher's stone is since I was single digits from watching Inspector Gadget.

Anyway, considering that both games were the product of Milton-Bradley, they are the same game with a needless name change.

Here's some old versions.

Makes me wonder what the history is.

LOL yes!

These are the boxes/art/toys that I remember seeing (by the Maker I'm old  Cheesy)

GREAT find, Logos!  Point!

P.S. Yeah, I'd read about the change (Harry Potter isn't my thing but I remember the title switch); I remember first hearing about the Philosopher's Stone when I learned about medieval alchemy in 3rd grade.

Hi Guys,

Cooties? Beetles? Well I think it might have been the issue of Cooties being linked to the idea of "imaginary germs or insects" and during 1948 the UK Government had set up the NHS which promoted health and well being during the 50's, so the UK MB Games execs feared they'd lose potential sales and chose a more neutral name.

Other products in the past have had naming issues, such as Sunny Corporation's Sunny Boy music player. Now old folks like me will know the Sunny Corporation rebranded and became SONY to sound more trendy and techy, whilst their cassette player was named the WALKMAN!

It's just cultures and marketing

OMG my friend "The Walkman!"  Yeah, I was BALLING since I had bought one of those when I was a kid, listening to my cassette tape of Depeche Mode's "Shake the Disease."  Ah nostalgia...

Yes, Depeche Mode, The Human League, Queen, Jean Michelle Jarre, Van Halen...I listened to all of them (and more) on my Walkman I owned. There was a catalogue returns store in my town and somebody had ordered the Walkman but then decided they didn't want it and sent it back to the catalogue company. The Catalogue then had to sell items like this off cheaper cos they'd been opened so I managed to snag a £70 cassette player for £25!

It was the best sounding music player I've ever had - it had a Graphic Equalizer, Bass Boost, multiband radio (AM, FM and Longwave)...but the best feature was the "Auto Reverse". Auto Reverse allowed you to put a cassette into the player and it played "Side A" of the cassette but upon reaching the end of side A it automatically re-aligned the mechanism and played Side B so you never needed to remove the tape to flip it over!

Still to this day my fave music device I ever had.

LOL FT we had the SAME EXACT Walkman  Grin

That's a GREAT price that you'd got it for!  IIRC, I paid @$100 or so (it's been awhlle  Tongue), but you are SO right: AWESOME sound, sturdy, and--yes, the BEST because I could listen to the entire cassette without removing it--Auto Reverse!!

Point for fantastic nostalgia  Smiley

You know what....this doesn't surprise me one bit! We have similar taste in music, both like Red Dwarf (the UK version of course) and we both definitely share the same taste in lightsabers so why not both of us having the same Walkman? Grin

I'm sure we must be secretly related and separated at birth or linked by a mystical power......"Do you have memories of your mother?" (<ROTJ)

Hello there....

Well my widescreen TV blew up this past week but in good news I did manage to get to my local cinema and saw Revenge of the Sith before Disney withdrew again....and it reminded me I had a couple of trinkets in storage....

And I know they aren't the actual versions seen in the film but are representative. Thanks for checking them out - and sorry I've been a bit quiet recently.

Well done. I would have seen it, but......I don't want to give the rat any more of my money. Would have been great though if an extrapolation of the boxoffice showed that it did better than any of Disney's crap SW.

I was hesitant about handing the mouse more cash too but the movie was on IMAX and this might have been the last opportunity to see it on the big screen (you never know).
Disney are scared to death that the box office numbers for ROTS would obliterate any of their products. A lot of YT channels have mentioned the fact the film had already made IIRC 900M or something and the Mouse execs cut the anniversary run short so it didn't break the billion dollar mark.

Anyhoo, I can say watching the movie was a bit of a "pick me up" as I haven't been well recently and the actual film didn't seem to have been messed up too much (just some extra HD polish that made it look a bit cleaner and scrubbed).
But the duel on the big screen can't be beat!

You are completely forgiven in that case.

Any? Try ALL of their products. HA!

Sorry to hear about your tv giving out, that sucks!
So I'm a bit late seeing these, life has kept me busy. Obi-wan and Anakin sbaers form episode 3. Nice, they look pretty good to me! Point to you for sharing your work.
