Hey fellow Mac users, I have a few more ideas to get Obsidian launcher to work without needing a version of Windows to bootcamp into. Perhaps if we put our heads together, a solution can be found.

I've been mucking around with this for the past few months and posted a few times with this. As everyone knows, we can get the launcher to work in offline mode using some sort of WINE bottler (Parallels, Crossover or WINE). Personally, I just use WINE because it's free.

The issue we are having is that the Mac's HID API does not recognize the saber connection to the USB or so I THOUGHT it did'nt.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this or not, I did'nt and just caught sight of this a few days ago.

Has anyone ever looked at the system profiler with the saber on and connected to a USB port? I did and the saber IS detected.
Click on the apple in the top left corner and go under "About This Mac".
Highlight USB on the left. In the right window pane under the USB tree, you'll see your lightsaber. It has product and manufactuer's ID. It even says Ultrasabers. And there's a device address.

I'm wondering if there is a way we could make a symbolic link to WINE (or Parallels or Crossover and whatever WINE bottler you are using). If we could establish that link then our WINE bottlers should recognize the saber USB connection. The WINE bottlers create their own windows registry,  so there must be a way to get the saber's device ID in there.

Anyone have any ideas to go about this?

I have a final thought on this before I cave in and get a dirt cheap laptop.

I said before the saber does show up on the system profiler in the USB section.

However, if you open a terminal window and type ls /dev to show connected devices, the saber is NOT there. If it were it would show up in the /dev list as tty.something.

The reason it does not show up in the dev list is that we need to get a device driver for the saber installed. Then it will show up on the /dev list.

Once it's in the /dev list, then we make a symbolic link to WINE (paralles, crossover, whatever.....) by doing a sudo -l device name com1 in Wine Files/C drive/dosfiles directory that WINE or crossover created. Once that link is created the obsidian program will then pick up the USB connection.
