Hi everyone, Im a noob here on the forums and in the saber hobby so bear with me Smiley  So I got my first saber with Obsidian sound, and Ive been looking on the net for sound fonts.  So far my favorite hands down is the resblade, sounds so different and very cool.  Now here is where the confusion comes in.  I cant find a way to get this sound on Obsidian, I found a font CD for sale but it looks to be only compatible with something called Crystal Focus?  However it looks like it was made by novastar which has several sounds available for Obsidian so Im thinking this one might be too....  To make things more complex however, I also am getting the impression that nova may have had a falling out with ultrasabers so maybe thats why Im having so much trouble finding this font in a compatible format?  lol so confusing for a newbie.  Anyway some clarification would be very helpful guys thanks much, and if resblade is available a link would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

The fonts on that CD are actually for a different soundboard called Crystal Focus, the ones compatible with the Obsidian board can be found here:

You can also go look at
http://www.saberfonts.com/

This is a site Ultra set up for us to share our own custom Obsidian sound fonts.  A few of us have a few custom sounds posted there.

It's simple to create your own sound fonts. Basically convert mp3 sound clips to .wav and then use the lsu converter. Obviously there's more to it than that (clipping the mp3's to size and converting the mp3's to .wav at the proper sample rate and sound mixing if you want to get more sophisticated).

This thread is a good starting point:

Can the fonts offered on the Novastar CD be converted so that they can be used on an obsidian board? I was really interested in one of his CDs, with the phoenix/fire sound for a saber that I recently got. I also wanted the necrovolt (electricity) font for a saber I plan to get.

Well, I just tried to ask on another forum (NOT FX-sabers), and got snarled at by somebody. So I guess it's back to here, and if nobody knows, then I guess I'm boned.

Did you download the files, like suggested?  One of the files you had requested is already available....

I have the novastar compilation, It's got the electro-staff sound, but I also want necro-volt, and the fire-themed one, I forget what it's called. I know the files here are compatible, I am just not sure about the ones on the CDs available for sale on Nova's website, if the format of those can be easily run through a converter, or if I would have to go through a more complicated process.

I'd love to help you, but I'm not really sure.  None of the current mods have experience in what you're talking about - in fact I believe just converting the currently available soundfonts from CF to Obsidian took a tremendous amount of work, so I don't think it's something that could be done easily for the average bear.

Don't mean to dash your hopes, I just figured I'd put my own two cents in.

That really, really sucks. I'm doing a cosplay, and the character wields a blade of psionic fire, so one of those fonts would have been perfect. I don't have the time or the know how to cobble a font together from scratch, I don't even know where I would get the sound files to even start doing such a thing.  Cry

Also, using alternative sound fonts on my non SW cosplays (my characters wield psionic weaponry) is one way of getting around the question "What are YOU doing with a lightsaber?"

I totally get that, and I'm sorry I don't have a better answer.  I'm sure there is a way to do it, maybe someone else with the know-how will post here or PM you with tips.

I sure hope so:) Nova's got some great sound fonts that I would happily buy from him, if I can just make the darn things work:)

As long as you have his CDs purchased, you should be able to take the wav files, and convert them to the required file type the obsidian uses.   A lsu converter is including in the obsidian software download....  The process has been broken down and discussed on this forum in other threads...  Its really not that hard once you get the settings correct....

So the files on the CD come in wav format? I've heard that they're at a different rate (22k hz), as opposed to the 48k hz used on Obsidian boards. But you can use a program like audacity to change that, apparently. And once that is done, I take it running them through the LSU converter isn't hard?

Awesome:)
