As per Avatar the Last Air bender (just one element)      Generally air benders can create winds, push/pull, and fly. Basic water benders can create water jets/walls/waves and ice. Fire benders can create fire balls, breathe fire, and related. The earth benders can draw up and push rock/sand/mud/etc. No social ramifications...just which sounds the most interesting for you...perhaps consider it a Star Wars related question...the focal aspect for the force abilities.

Why not go all Bionicle and say Water, Earth, Stone, Air, Fire, Ice, Light, Life, Darkness, etcetera?  That was a huge fail on LEGO's part. Anyways, I would totally go with water. Percy Jackson style  Okay not quite Percy Jackson style, but you get my point.

Hmmm I could go with any truthfully...the classic grounded stance is my core...so most likely I would be an Earth bender...the air stylist is a bit more graceful than I feel and think now days. Most likely Earth, Water, Fire, and then Air. For Kham...hmmm I suspect you see the Earth as strong and inoffensive in appearance...but your general attitude would point towards Water IMO...the coming to grips with the nature of ebb and flow would be the step...yes I would say for Kham...Water, Air, Earth, and then Fire. Water is good for those who balance push and pull. Air is best for drawing and shadowing. Earth is strong but defensive. Fire is strong but aggressive. Just thinking out loud.

The advanced bending included interesting aspects.
Fire...burn the air so fast it creates a plasma arc, lightning.
Water...ice is an advanced technique as is the healing touch (realigning chi) and blood bending which is considered 100% evil (reverse blood flow).
Earth...advanced included metal bending and contact teleport (drawing into rock/earth and popping out else where...usually within a range relative to holding one's breath)
Air...this is a tough one...but creating specific objects with air like a ball of air to ride on, constant up draft to create lift (fly), but the real air power technique was hurricane strength winds.

I would pick air, it would allow me to mirror Jedi abilities pretty close which I like. Not only that, but if you're creative enough with air you can manipulate the other elements anyways.

That is the rub...if applied with a clever mind and strong will each of the styles could affect the other... It is accepting this, allowing for weakness...that is where one finds strength

I'm gonna shock everyone and say Earth for me, though I get the feeling were I just dropped into that universe I'd probably end out not being lucky enough to be a bender, in which case I'd take up the swords. But yes, Earth for me. Flying rocks are so win. Metal bending is so win. Creating armor from dirt is SO win.  Plus, I could partner up with Spidey and wreak havoc on the forces of the Fire Nation. Oh, and play with giant badger moles, cause they're awesome.

While watching the series, I totally identified with the Water tribe. But that could be because we get such a limited view of the Air Tribe, since they're all (or almost all) dead by the time the series begins. I would certainly have a hard time passing up the power to fly!
