And I'm ok with it!

Stumbled onto US a couple of weeks ago, and finally decided to take the plunge and get a grab bag saber.  Only thing I specified was an orange blade.

Looks to me like a dark standard issue.  However, I'm not sure how to tell what version it is.  Is there any way to tell just from a picture?

Also- any tips on customization?

Check the diameter of the hilt, V3s are 1.48" inches across, the V2s are 1.28" across.  As for customization, thumb through the Customization forum and you'll see a good amount of ideas.  The most popular ones are O-Rings and wraps of leather, cloth, rope/string, and even contact paper.  Think about what you want it to be and I'm sure you'll find some examples that might lead you to it.  It's a great first saber, mine was a DSI in blazing red.

Manroon suggests a wrapped grip, if you can find any sort of adhesive backed rubbed strip... that's what worked best for me. I also used some old paracord type stuff for a lower grip. Contrasts nicely. And don't be afraid of a little paint! I'd suggest getting some red acrylic model paint and a small brush, and painting some of the rings. Wink
