Review of my initial purchases from UltraSabers.  I am sure that I was or am like most after locating the US website, I debated for about a month and a half of what I actually wanted to get.  I thought I wanted to get a single saber with sound and wanted to get a staff with sound.  After many combinations that I put together and added to my cart, I would then clear out the cart and do it again.

As my birthday rolled around in March, I told my wife that I wanted to get a saber.  She said, you should get two so you can duel with someone if you want(how cool is she?).  After getting in on the forums and doing some more research, here is what I got for my first sabers:

Guardian, Blue Av Switch, Dark Violet Amethyst, Ultra Edge Heavy Grade blade 36”, and Obsidian Sound.

Bellicose, Red AV Switch, Bane’s Heart, Ultra Edge Heavy Grade blade 36”, and Obsidian Sound

Raven, Red AV Switch, RGB, Ultra Edge Heave Grade blade 36”, and Obsidian Sound, with Standard Claws

Phantom LE V2, Blazing Red, 32" mid grade blades

I will apologize ahead of time, that this might be lengthy, but I will discuss the pros and cons that I found with each and go over some concerns that I had before buying, so as to hopefully help other first time saber purchasers looking to get a US.  All of the US hilts are awesome looking and it is so hard to decide on that first one.  I am not quite sure how many times I watched some of the videos and such, of several of the sabers.  The forums were found to be an awesome place and people willing to help answer questions I had.

Each time I came back to trying to decide on a hilt, I kept steering toward the Guardian and Raven, and in the back of my mind I kept thinking about an RGB saber.  Since the Guardian does not have RGB, I figured it would probably end up me getting it in the Raven since I was so undecided on what color to get.  However it concerned me a lot about having that many switches on the hilt and how it would effect my grip.  I PM’d several people that had posted to get a better idea.

I will begin with the Raven:

I love the look of this hilt and the grip is very nice.  It is long but not terribly heavy as you might suspect.  I did get this in RGB, because I was somewhat indecisive on what color I wanted, and liked the idea of being able to change to any of the seven colors it can make.  Even after ordering I still was not sure how I would like having the four switches on it.  The thing that I do like in that I chose a RGB is that I have seen the colors first hand and it will make it easier for me to choose for future purchases.  I found that when wielding, you definitely know that the switches are there.  I had to modify my grip on it slightly, turning the switches out toward the way my fingers were pointing so that during the spin they were not catching or rubbing against my thumb or palm.  I do not have large hands and can make it work.  Now having owned a RGB, I would probably not get another and will at sometime probably order me another Raven with a single switch, quick disconnect, for if I ever wanted to change the color.  Do not get me wrong on this,  nothing bad on the part of US making the RGB, but I found one is enough for me.  I would probably use the money to get a grab bag saber or something instead.

The sound on the Raven is nice and loud.  The only slight issue is the the small piece they put below the AV switch to make it appear more flush mounted, is slightly loose and rattles around at times.  Other than that, the Raven is great.

The Bellicose:

This hilt is great as well.  It is much lighter than you would imagine.  I find it much lighter than the other two, and with the heavy blade is balanced a bit more toward the blade side.  This however is not a negative, just noticeable when I pick it up compared to the others.  The Bellicose is comfortable in hand and the covertec wheel never gets in my way.  I actually forget it is there most of the time because my grip is higher up.  Like the Raven, the sound on the Bellicose is nice and loud.  I think this is due to the pommel being shallower and the speaker sitting fairly close to the cuts in the bottom.  The only mild negative I have to say is that again the piece under the AV switch is slightly loose and rattles from time to time.

The Guardian:

This is definitely the heavier of the three in my opinion, but it feels balanced really well with the heavy grade blade.  I really have nothing bad to say about the Guardian and would probably say that it is my favorite of the three at the moment.  The sound is slightly lessened by the longer pommel and the speaker being back a bit from the openings at the bottom, but still really loud.  Despite it being heavy, I can still spin it fairly well and actually the weight of the hilt sometimes aids me in spinning because the momentum seems to help me bring the blade back around.  I am no means an expert wielder or spinner with these things, but am okay at it.

With the reward points I earned from purchasing these three sabers, I decided to get a stunt staff.  After asking on the forums, because I was torn between the initiate size or full length hilts, I went with the Phantom LE V2 hilts.  I am glad that I did go with the full length, because it gives me plenty of room to work with when using as a staff.  For me the initiate might have been a bit too short for my liking.  I got them with 32” mid grade blades in Blazing Red.  As a staff, it is the perfect size for me, as I am 5’11”.  I can move it around with ease and not worried too much about t hitting the ground with it.  Now ceiling fans and lights in the house are another story.  These definitely making spinning much easier when duel wielding due to the smaller diameter.  The LE hilts look great and have a good feel.  I did take the blade out and measure it because it seemed short to me.  The whole blade is 30.5” instead of 32”, so when mounted in the hilt they are sticking out only 28.5”.  No complaints here about that though, because it makes it slightly better length for me.  Maybe US was reading my mind and made it for me that way. LOL

Overall I have been very pleased with all of these sabers I purchased from US.  I would recommended any of these to anyone looking to buy a great looking, working, dueling, playing, or displaying saber or staff.  If anyone has any further questions about any of these sabers I have, feel free to PM me. Happy Sabering!

Wonderful review, very detailed, other than thoughts on the colors. Grin

Seeing the Guardian next to the Raven is awesome BTW, now I know what I'm looking at.

You are right Kham, I forgot about the colors.  I will first comment that all of them are very bright.

Colors on the Raven

Guardian Blue -  it is very blue, but to me does not really fit the Raven.  To me the Raven is more a Sith type hilt and the bright blue screams more Jedi.

Blazing Red - it is a full deep red and fits the Raven well.

Consular Green - I like this color also, but again it screams more of Jedi color and for the Raven, not so much.

Violet amethyst - (red and blue mix). I love this color.  It is more on the purple side, but I would see this fitting any hilt and could go either Jedi or Sith look.

Artic Blue - (blue and green mix). This is a more subtle blue and looks good.

.Huh  I am not sure what to call the (red and green mix). It is sort of yellow looking, with a hint of orange.  Looks to be more yellow to me, but dingy.  I like the yellow, but I would like it to be more vibrant yellow.  That may be how the Sentinel Yellow is, but I do not have one to compare it to.

Mixing all three RGB, gives me kind of a lighter purple.   It appears like it is almost silver with a hint of the purple mixed in.  It is not as silver as my clash, you can still see e difference.  Not a bad color, just not quite sure what it is truly suppose to be.

All of the colors are great, just some do not suit the Raven's beastly, more evil look, for me that is.

Once I got to reading the forums and learned about the forum colors, I decided to go with two of these unique colors.  I will say that I was not and am not disappointed with either of them.

Dark Violet Amethyst -  to me this color is awesome!  It seems to be a combination of the more subtle Article Blue with some purple, so it is more on the blue side than purple, but none the less, it is great.  For those looking for the more purple, I guess Mace Windu look, I would go with the Violet Amethyst to get that.

Bane's Heart. -  this color is awesome as well.  To me it is a more subtle red, that has leans toward a slight shade of pink.  And no, not so pink that people would be teasing you about your saber being pink.  If they do just smack them with it one time, LOL.  It is a nice blend, that gives a very distinct color.

You can not go wrong with either of these two colors in my opinion.  Also from reading the forums, it appears that Kham is a fan of the Sentinel Yellow and I think that one of my next sabers will have that color.  I also plan to get something in Preystone Orange as well.  Since I do not have them yet, I will save that for a future review.

Hope this helps those new to US in deciding on colors, but knowing how much I read before deciding and still being unsure, it probably won't.  There is nothing like seeing it first hand and then making a choice.

AH HA!

We were just talking about SY in another thread and how it differs from a single unit SY saber.

For future reference here is Master Nero's quote,
It was correct!  An RGB led has different dies that you can utilize to make specific color mixes - for instance they mix red and blue to make Violet Amethyst, and green and blue to make Sunriders Destiny or Arctic Blue.  Sentinel Yellow also uses this approach, combining red and green light to make yellow... but since it isn't a regular color (yet), the color mix can vary somewhat.  Resistors themselves have a great deal of variance, which affects the voltage supplied (and therefore the color).

I ordered two SY MLS units, and they were noticeably different.  I liked them both, just to be clear, but one was a more "yellow" color (more green) while the other was more golden.  Some people have gotten almost orangey hues, while others have portions of their blade that are actually green!

For the most part though, Sentinel Yellow seems to end up as a very satisfying yellow color.  It's both bright and unique, and I gotta recommend it along with Kham.

Again, Wonderful review and enjoy your new sabers.

Thanks Kham for the info on the SY.

Slaxxor you will be happy with the Phantom V2.  I kept debating it vs. the V3, but figured since I was not getting sound, I would save some $$ and get the V2.  No regrets.  But a V3 Phantom is on the future list of purchases.

I do not have a V3, but it depends on whether you want sound or not.  The V2 is not sound capable where the V3 is.  The V2 is pretty much a straight hilted saber and the V3 is contoured a bit, with two different choke points on it.  The V3 has a slightly larger diameter on it and is a bit longer, to have room for the sound board.

If you just want a stunt saber without sound, I would say just get the V2, it will save you a little money.

I am very happy with mine, but I knew I was not going to ever put sound in this one.

Hey. If you tested it, how does thee Guardian feel with a Mid Grade blade? Nice and light? Or still hilt heavy? Or is it even heavy at all? Thanks. Looks like a killer saber to duel with.

Zren, to answer your question, The Guardian hilt is heavier than any of my others, but not so heavy that you would hate using it.  I like the heavier feel of it.  I do not think that a Mid grade would change things a whole lot, other than being lighter on the blade end of things.  I think it is matched better with the heavy grade blade though.
