I've browsed the forums looking for info on SY, and now I have questions.. I know the color is a RGB, and I've read that there are slight variances in the color when ordered.  Does anyone know if they came up with a uniformed way to mix SY ?  I plan on ordering a Phnatsm LE with either SY or AS and add the yellow filters. I just want to make sure the yellow would be the same on both sabers before ordering......AANNDD cue KHAM !   Cheesy

I don't have filters so I can't speak for them but I'm told by Navajas that AS and Lee Filters can get you a much more consistent color because the AS is constant.

Also keep in mind that they are tweaking the RGB dyes to get the color, the SY from an RGB equipped saber does not look the same as a standalone sY saber.

I really don't know if they have developed one or where they are with colors, I'm sure when they do we will know.

As for the variations I've only ever had one saber here that wasn't the same as my others and it was my wife's BUT I later realized that the reason her's continued to look more Gold was because I didn't take very good care of the batteries. Once I changed them to a fresh pair of trust fire's the color was the same as my others.

Just to clarify,  the SY is a stand alone LED  and would look different than yellow in a RGB saber ?  I would LOVE to not have to use filters.

Yes; God I wish I knew exactly how to explain this.

When you order a SY saber, they manually adjust the dyes of an RGB LED to Sentinel Yellow.

RGB sabers are built to encompass their wide variety of colors so the SY that is created isn't exactly the same as the above SY.

SOMEONE, please let me know if I explained that correctly? Grin

It was correct!  An RGB led has different dies that you can utilize to make specific color mixes - for instance they mix red and blue to make Violet Amethyst, and green and blue to make Sunriders Destiny or Arctic Blue.  Sentinel Yellow also uses this approach, combining red and green light to make yellow... but since it isn't a regular color (yet), the color mix can vary somewhat.  Resistors themselves have a great deal of variance, which affects the voltage supplied (and therefore the color).

I ordered two SY MLS units, and they were noticeably different.  I liked them both, just to be clear, but one was a more "yellow" color (more green) while the other was more golden.  Some people have gotten almost orangey hues, while others have portions of their blade that are actually green!

For the most part though, Sentinel Yellow seems to end up as a very satisfying yellow color.  It's both bright and unique, and I gotta recommend it along with Kham.

I can't speak for RGB, but two great ways to get yellow are SY sabers and AS with an Oklahoma Yellow Lee filter. The SY Liberator I have seems to come off a tick more gold even with a fresh battery, but a VERY pleasant effect is achieved by adding a light green filter to get just a little tinge of green in the yellow for those that prefer such a thing. The SY is very adjustable with Lee filters, giving a color range from red to green with stops at various shades of orange and yellow/green along the way if you tweak it right with the filters. As has been mentioned, the color changes on weak batteries, but I find its not such a huge deal until they're almost fully dead and the saber starts going red. My advice? Get one. My SY Liberator is rapidly becoming my primary saber, and the only people more thrilled than me about that are Dreaming, who got me the thing for Valentine's Day, and of course Kham, who's lust for the color yellow is well documented around these parts.

I'm pretty adamant about both sides of the staff matching, ATM I'm leaning towards the AS with filters approach. which I've tried and LOVE the Oklahoma yellow. Thank you soo much for the input folks !

One more thought from someone with an RGB saber: I have noticed a significant reduction in battery life when I have more than one color running. Not like a drastic change by hours, but several minutes up to around a half hour less than when I only use one color. Also I think that blue draws the most while red does the least. So with SY you have two LEDs running, though not the most power consuming. With AS you only have one LED to be powered so I would assume a slightly longer battery life, and with the filters being the same you will get the most consistent color.

However, with the subtleties of SY you will get blades with a bit more character and personality which could be really cool. They would be identical save for a few viewing angles and I think that gives the blades a more dynamic feel. Either way you are going to have a sweet staff!

I'm totally guessing here, but since the SY LED modules are tuned manually, I think it would be safe to assume that the person assembling your staff would do their best to make the colours match since they'd presumably be tuning at the same time.

Thoughts?  Notice I make a lot of assumptions in that sentence...  Cheesy

Maybe email [email protected] to confirm if you're nervous.

I'm liking the idea of having a unique color mix for the saber's "personality". I'm gonna go a head and get the actual SY LEDs.

That ^ -  it worked out perfectly for me, I like owning two different variants, it's like having even more color options.  And my sun fire themed Initiate LE ended up with the redder version, which makes me happy.
